I have a Durabrand DBM001 microwave. Worked fine until yesterday. Today when turning dials the unit does not power on at all. Have checked the fuse in the plug and that is fine and the plug socket has power. Do not have the user manual, so do not know what to check first and cannot find the manual online.

SOURCE: No power - Nothing happens

if you have power at the outlet and the internal fuse is okay, I would say you have a problem on the control board. We repair these nationwide for $32.50. Please see my profile for the Web address: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

SOURCE: micowave new but not working

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount (which are pretty simple problems to fix) or occasionally a problem on the control panel.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.

Door switch or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

One test that sometimes helps is to gently lift up (and/or push down) on the door or handle as you try to start it. If it works or tries to work, then it's a door switch mount or door alignment issue.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa:.

If you only need a switch, you can order one from us for $5 postpaid.

Since it's less than one year old, it should be fully covered under warranty. I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to get it fixed free.

You have a shorted high voltage capacitor.

Here is a link you or someone you know can use to test it, but please read the safety info:

SOURCE: Our microwave oven Emerson 8992SB

Here is a link to your microwave's Online User Manual in case you don't have it already:

http://www.emersonelectronics.ca/emerson/documents/MW8992RD%20-%2009%20Cubic%20Ft%20900%20Watt%20Microwave%20Ovenmanual.pdf

On page 13 of the above manual you will find instructions on how to deactivate the child lock in case that was the problem.

Basically you just hold down the STOP/CANCEL button for 3 seconds.

If it is not that then you might be looking at some kind of power supply circuit board or control circuit board failure and some significant disassembly since I don't believe there is an easily accessible fuse you can replace in the unit.

Good luck and I hope this was at least a little helpful.
Joe.

I have a Durabrand DBM001 microwave which until yesterday was working fine. Have checked plug and socket - they are working fine. As it is only a basic microwave there is only a timer button to turn the...

This could be the upper latch in the door. Mine stopped working just as you describe. After dis-mantling I noticed the mechanical action which should operate 3 micro-switches in the door lock was not working correctly on the upper switch when the door was closed.

This is part of the safety interlock circuit to prevent operation of the magnetron when the door is open.

Closer inspection of the door striker arm revealed a crack which allowed the top part of the arm to spring away from the upper switch which stopped the oven working.

This part is easily removed by prising the door inner trim off gently, starting at the bottom was easiest for me, then sliding the arm up against the spring tension until it slides clear of the guide grooves, finally detach the spring.

I have no idea where to get spare parts for this ASDA only branded product, so I am going to use super strong epoxy resin to repair the striker arm.

Where can i purchase the plate for model DBM001

You should contact Durabrand at the number in your owner's manual.

If for some reason you don't have your owner's manual, I would suggest calling the dealer where you bought it to see if they have a number for Durabrand.
