I believe I need a new spring or a new latch head. My problem becomes the disassembly of the door since I see no screws. How do I disassemble the door to install a new latch head.
The latch head (with hooklike projections) have a spring to keep it pulled down. If the latch head can be easily pushed up and falls back freely, then the monting tab on the back of the latch head is broken and it will have to be glued or replaced. The new part is better. To get to the door screws inside, you have to remove the choke cover, as shown in the photo. You can order parts for Sharp models from Tritronics at http://www.wehaveparts.com.
Latch spring attachment point to door frame broke. Instead of replacing outer door frame or trying to glue the attachment point, I fashioned a new attachment with a piece of coat hanger and it works fine.

disassemble door
door latch on nn-sn778s spring needs less tension
The part did not come with new springs...but can't believe the spring is the problem.
