Scanner...says refer to device documentation to troubleshoot

My HP Officejet 5610 All-in-One scanner never worked. Once the scanner button is pressed it says "refer to device documentation to troubleshoot.
What could be the problem???

Hello elynash,

You need to make sure you have updated drivers installed. Along with the HP scanning software to make the scanner feature work properly with windows.

You can download the latest drivers free of charge here

Select your Operating system (windows xp, vista) Then then can access your downloads. Third one down is drivers, and the full hp software package.

Uninstall the old drivers in Control Panel / Add remove programs
Install the software you downloaded and restart your PC. It should now scan properly.

HP Officejet 5610 all in one When i try to scan

If you have windows vista and it comes up with the "no scan options" don't press the button on the printer, go to "start" then "accessories" then "paint". This will open up the windows paint program. Go to "File" then click on "From scanner or printer". It will then scan the document, no more problems

No scanning option in my HP office jet 5610 All in One

I had the same problem for months. I couldn't solve it but found a work around. Place the document to scan in the scanner.

Open MS Paint (Start/Programs/Accessories/Paint). Click on File in the menu bar, then from Scanner or Camera. It scans!
