I have a Digital Voice Recorder DS-2....how do I erase an item???

I don't know if a Mac version of software came with your Digital Recorder.

I have a PC, and a similar Digital Recorder. A DS-330 but I'm too lazy to install the software, DSS Player 2002 and then look for the USB cable.

So, I connected the Digital Recorder's Ear directly to the audio-in of the PC via a mono (2 wire) patch cable, with a standard 3.5 mm plug at each end. (As long as it fits in both, the Recorder and your MacBook, it will work). I suspect "The Source" (Radio Shack) may have such item.
You can also use a "stereo" patch cable.

I use Audacity as the sound recorder and then convert it to MP3. There is a version for Mac available too.

The amount of room available on the Olympus DS2 are determined by two things:

1. Avaiable Memory
2. Recording Mode

With that said, if you have formatted (erased) the files on the recorder and there is little recording room left, you will need to change your recording mode. I would recommend changing it to SP mode.

Unfortunately this recorder is designed with flash memory and once you erase a file it is gone. There may be some companies (olympus is not one of them) that specialize in flash memory recovery but it is a very costly process and involves you sending the recorder to them to perform this operation.
You can go to google and search for flash memory recovery specialists.

sometimes formatting will reset the file number... format through the recorder..

Select the file, then press erase and follow the display. If you hold down erase, you should get an erase all option. Also you can select Format in the menu.

on your computer, you will need some sort of media recovery software. also go to options under the tools menu and uncheck delete after transfer to turn off deletion. this is usually best since you can delete the files through the recorder by the erase button

ds-2300 is the cheapest one unless you can find a ds-330

The same problem "Read memory only". The best solution is : submenu/format/start

No, you can't do this on the Olympus DS-50 , its not a dictation machine, you can do this only by Olympus DS-2300, DS-3300, & DS-4000 which they have the Editing Features : Insert,Overwrite, eraseing and Partial erase
