Freezer works, fridge does not. The coils in the freezer wear iced over. Unplugged, thawed, turned defrost timer switch til it clicked. Plugged back in. Freezer still getting cold. Assuming defrost timer problem. Where is it and how do I replace it?

The defrost timer for a model FRS26ZSG is found behind the kick plate at the bottom and front of your refrigerator. You will need to pull the kick plate off. If you turned the timer then that is the defrost timer part number=> 215846602 Defrost Timer I am here should you have questions, Sea Breeze

SOURCE: Fridge & Freezer not getting cold enough

Welshons, Take a look at the picture Im posting. Did your evaporator look like it? If so your system may be restricted. This is a pretty common problem in Frigidaire top mounts. The good news is that it would be covered under warranty if it is not over 5 years old. As long as your condensor fan is running and the condensor is clean, evaporator not frosted up and evap fan running. I would think that you have a weak compressor or a restriction. Catriver...post back.

SOURCE: fridgidare, freezer cold fridge warm

sounds like you may have gotten a refridgerant leak causing a low charge condition. some refridgerators have a evaporator fan if this quit working it will cause it to freeze up .thus the freezer does not use a fan and it will still get cold

SOURCE: FREEZER NOT DEFROSTING AND ICING UP

Fridgedaire has a lot of defrost termination switches that are separating and not allowing the defrost cycle to heat up. The defrost termination switch is located behind the wall that is icing up, take out the screws that hold the back wall in place and use a hiar dryer or hot water to remove ice do not use an ice pick or sharp object of any kind. the def terminatin sw is small and round about 3/4 of and inch thick and has two wires coming off of it one goes to the defrost heater the other usually back into the wiring harness. check it to make sure it is not coming apart. Ohm it and the heater out it should have continuity when below 20 degress. the heater should have continuity all the time,.

The freezer is not cooling and all items in the freezer have dethawed, The Fridge part is cool but not as cool. This started last night and 24 hours later everything defrosted.

hopefully you still got it plugged up to check a few things.... if so here we go...
1st is there any frost build up on the back wall of the freezer wall inside unit... if so then we know the compressor is still working and you got a defrost problem going on most likely one of these three parts /the heater has failed, the defrost thermostat has failed. or the defrost timer has failed... you can check the heater by gaining access to the back wall of freezer remove shelfs and the remove back panel of freezer there will be a heater down at bottom with a wire on each side make sure the unit is unplugged at this point and that you take a hair dryer and thaw ice test heater on each side with a meter checking for contuinity through heater to make sure no broke... the defrost thermostat is mounted to the coil in same area prior to thawing gain access to wires if there is ice around thermostat which is round and clips to coil has 2 wires again unit unplugged adn prior to thawing check for contuinity as if there is ice around it it should have closed... if both them are good you most likely have a bad defrost control/timer. if there is no ice on back panel is the fan in freezer section working when the door switch is closed listen ,is the fan in the back of unit working ,is the compressor running have you heard any clicking coming from back of unit if so that would indicate a bad compressor relay on will require to be replaces.... not much description in your post but hopefully one of these tips help you get a diagnoses. good luck

Water leakage from bottom of upright freezer, on side by side fridge/freezer combination.

most unit have automatic defrost that melts ice off coils in freezer compartment it is on a timer sounds like the drain line has plugged or frozen to verify unit will need to be dismantled and verify drain clear
how ever if problem is just ice unit can be emptied and allowed to thaw completly and then turned back on and refilled if problem reaccurs then drain was plugged first and then froze normally I would thaw unit and pour water down drain verify clear before restarting normal defrost cycles it will leak about the same time everyday good luck ron

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp

..
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

Freezer coils frost up within minutes after being turned back on

Your evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Freezer works great, but refrigeration section stopped working

Check the door seals on fridge and freezer to make sure there are NO leaks.
Try manually adjusting air flap that controls air from freezer to fridge, the flap may be frozen or the actuator that controls the flap may be faulty.

FROST BUILD UP IN FREEZER AND REFER NOT COLD ENOUGH

hello.

  • Defrost the freezer
  • Clean the condensor coils
  • Check the door seals
  • Test the door switch
  • If you recently adjusted the temperature control, loaded the refrigerator or are in a humid location, it is not uncommon for a refrigerator to run for 24 hours or more before getting cool.

    GE refrigerator coils

Your defrost timer is probubly defective, In side the freezer compartment near the thermostat you should find a hole with a knob recessed that you can turn with a screw driver ... turn it til you feel it click. wait to hear if you hear the ice start to crack.
If so thats your problem. Other include: Burny out heater element, bad defrost termination t-stat
