Monitor is connected and powered and has worked fine for over 2 years. Rebooted workstation and screen stayed black. When I power monitor off and on, the display stays on for about 2 seconds then goes black again. I can see in those two seconds that the workstation has booted correctly and is waiting for my password.
This has happened to at least 2 other Planar monitors in our office in the past few weeks. No matter how many times you turn it off and then back on, you can only see the display for a few seconds. The workstation appears to be working fine. A monitor replacement also works, but I am trying to avoid that hassle.
thanks!
I work in the IT department for a hospital, and we recently switched from Dell to Planar monitors. We discovered a problem with the monitor not waking up, even though the PC did after it went into standby. We found that they were having issues with the DVI connection. Once we swept through the hospital and switched the DVI out with VGA cables, the problem ceased. I can tell you we won't be purchasing anymore Planars...to think a device had to step back in technology in order for the problem to stop.
Iv come across this before sometimes people can see that the monitor is actually working but the light has gone out id say bad capacitors that are breaking down. if you want to DIY it take it apart and find the light pcb usually built on the power supply pcb and look for bulging or swolen capacitors this happens alot in my opinion. if you can DIY it get the same caps or same value but better ones. I might be wrong but worth a look
