my unit is not even a year old yet. When in drive it will move but it is extremely hard to push, so I push the neutral button and it works fine, just hard to push my unit is not even a year old yet. So when u pull it back it's like it's not engaged at all? then it maybe the reverse is out....with the fwd soon to follow. remember the vac is 20yrs old; & working that long? it definately served it's purpose.
depending how much money you wanna spend on it buying a new or used trans. plus labor...or just an ebay used unit.

I do not know much about Kirby G3. Did you read the instructions because sometimes we over look a part or we didn't understand the instructions and it might be a important part of the machine. Also it might be a faulty chip in the vacuum not telling it to drive instead of reverse.
Dear Sir: Download the instruction manual from Kirby, and see the section troubleshooting guide. And proceed according. If you say do not enough power. The batteries can be Not good replace or recharge very well. Or test the power cord and trafo, and see if the power is o.k or replace. Use the VOM for to test the output voltage. Another faulty can be the motor some winding inside is overheating and consequently faulty. God bless you
Beginning with the G series, G3 and G4 had round openings for the dirt intake. Prior models had oval so they will not fit, so find G3 or G4 bags and you will be set
Hello,
The Kirby shampoer lays a layer of dry foam on the surface of the carpet and then scrubs it back off with a rotating brushroller. You can get more details of how to use one here...
Try removing the nozzle and poking a screwdriver in the little slot for the safety switch and seeing if it runs. Maybe the nozzle's poker isn't pushing it in adequately?
