Stop the sound of a Tone when Keying to Transmit..

I am unable to use the radio, when I key the mike to Transmit.. This loud tone noise come out the radio.. How to I stop this from happening?

That generally means that it's set to transmit on an invalid frequency.

Setting and Transmitting Call Tones
Your radio can transmit different call tones to other radios in your group so you can alert them that you want to talk.
To set a call tone:
1. With the radio on, press MENU 3 times. The current call tone setting flashes and displays.
2. Press + or - to change and hear the call tone.
3. Press MENU or PTT to set the new call tone or turn feature off.

Transmitting a Talk Confirmation Tone
You can set your radio to transmit a unique tone when you finish transmitting. It is
like saying Roger or Over to let others know you are finished talking.
• To turn talk confirmation on, press and hold (+)while you turn the radio on. When
you release after transmitting, your confirmation tone transmits and displays.
• To turn talk confirmation off, turn your radio off and then back on while pressing
and holding (+).

You are either describing a CALL TONE ( The Call Tone obtains others’ attention before you start talking) or the ROGER BEEP (When you turn on this feature, your two-way radio transmits a unique tone when you
finish transmitting. It’s like saying “Roger” or “Over” and lets others know you’re
finished talking.)

To shut off the roger beep, hold in the plus + button while turning the radio on.

The CALL TONE may or may not be a feature of your T5210 radio. I am unable to open the online manual for it to tell for certain. If it does have a CALL TONE feature you would access it by pressing the MENU button until you see a "CA" on the screen along with a number. Using the plus or minus button change the setting to zero, followed by pressing the menu button or the PTT button. The zero setting is equivalent to OFF.

Check the settings of your frequency, interference eliminator code and Qt filter. These three must match identically on all your radios. For basic operation set the code and Qt filter to zero (off).

My IC-2000 won't transmit if the subaudible tone is enabled.

It should transmit whether or not the tone is enabled. Even if the sub-audible tone generator is broken, you should still get RF output. If you are working a repeater, is your TX tone on the right frequency? If you turn the tones on and the repeater doesn't support them, the repeater will transmit, but you won't hear anything.

Most repeaters will not pass a sub-audible tone because the audio frequency range for then is restricted to 300 to 3000 Hz. The sub audible tones are received before the audio bandpass filters on the receiver, and are regenerated on the transmitter after the transmit audio bandpass filters.

I once had a repeater on a mountain top and set the sub-audible tone to 250Hz. The tone only transmitted when a signal was present. No tones were required to use the repeater so anyone could access the repeater. But I added the tones so that a remote radio could be used as a linking radio. The requirement for a CTCSS system is to detect the tone within 8 cycles, and at 250Hz, the tone would then be detected quicker than if I used a lower tone frequency. There are lots of reasons to use CTCSS. This is one unique example.

DCS is another way that radio's can be used to limit access to repeaters, or communication between individual radio users. You can hear the conversations without using DCS, but without the right DCS codes, they won't be able to hear you.

Model? Brand? Anything else? It "sounds" like you are trying to transmit on an unprogrammed channel. Hard to say without more information.

FT-890AT yaesu transceiver has distorted transmit audio

Hi Ronald,

Could the problem be related by having the mike to close to your mouth? This is the most common cause of over-modulation/ distortion from the transmission end.

If you have the mike 3-6 inches from the mouth and speak in an even non loud tone, that would help sort that out. If this is not the source of the over modulation/distortion, then you may have a transmitter issue, which would require the unit to be serviced by a qualified radio technician or ham radio operator, if you know one willing to look at it for you.

Superstar 121 with astatic power mic and texas star dx 500 power..when I key up to talk they say I sound like I'm a ways from the mic, but I have a loud roger beep...any ideas....mic?...

try a stock mike or a noise canceling one. Hard to run power on top of power. And see what your radio is dead keying into the radio...usally with a 500 it can take up to a 6 watt dead key.

Muting the sound

Hi,

The sound produced by a Motorola radio when the mike is keyed refers to the "Transmitting Call Tone" which is another feature other than the "Interference Eliminator" or the "Roger Beep" feature.

On most Motorola GMRS/FRS TalkAbout radios, setting the "Call Tone" to 0 disables the feature. This is done with the radio ON by pressing on the "Menu" button 3 times which will result in the display showing the current Call Tone setting (flashing) and the letters CA; pressing on the <- or +> buttons will change selection (you will also hear the different Tones), select 0 (it may be up to 5 or 10 depending on the version). Press on the "Menu" or "PTT" button to set, save and exit.

Hope that this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.
