The vista drivers should work, when you install windows 7 again. The files has to be unziped, before you install the driver. But that does not mean the drivers will work on win 8.
OK, well according to the HP website there are NO Win7 Drivers available for that particular printer. Now you could try to install the existing printer drivers in "Compatibility Mode for XP SP 2" however even if you DO manage to get it working, it most likely will NOT allow all functions.. as it is not a Win7 driver.
If it were me, I would indeed obtain a new printer that was instantly compatible with Win 7, I would also entertain the idea of a Wireless Printer as well, this makes a printer much more versatile.
Unfortunately, some functionality can be lost in a laptop when upgrading to windows 7. I lost the ability to use the touchpad button for scrolling on my Acer laptop, but found a way around it by using the side scroll bars instead.
I was told that I had to wait for an updated driver to be released, but everything I tried outside of that didn't work for this driver device problem.
I checked the manufactuer, Acer, and also the touch pad manufacturer, and tried other drivers to no avail.
I suspect that you can use vista drivers in win7 but it's a **** shoot when upgrading an older computer. Sorry about that.
Hey, just use Zinstall XP7. It can
upgrade to Windows 7 and keep your programs and files and everything.
No reason to stay on XP, I think - 7 is awesome
it is because win 7is new to the market..
all the drivers are not upgraded by win7.
try microsoft help....chat centre..
or use microsoft win7 upgrade advisor for the system drivers support.

I posted this for another user but i'll post it here too,
I remember looking for hours for a driver
for my Epson 1200 scanner back when I upgraded by dad to Vista 64 Bit,
eventually I found one. Just today I upgraded him to Windows 7 64 bit
and remembered I couldn't get it to work, luckily I was able to dig up
the driver I used for Vista 64. Worked great in Windows 7.
I
can't remember where I found it so I can't credit the person who made
the driver unfortunately, however i've uploaded it to Rapidshare for
you to download. Here is the link:
