Num lock is on

Often, there is a setting in the BIOS.

Other than that, I have not experiments with it.

Sounds like you have turned on the NUM LOCK on the laptop keyboard. If you look closely you will see the numbers on those keys (maybe in a different colour).

You need to turn off NUM LOCK again. On the laptop I'm looking at, this is done by pressing Fn and END together, but the key should be marked with NUM LOCK as well.

F3 to enter Standby mode. Press the power button to leave Standby mode. F4 toggle the display in the following order:

• Notebook display (default)
• External monitor (if connected)
• Both the notebook display and the external monitor (if an external monitor is connected)

F7 decrease the display brightness. F8 increase the display brightness. F9 play or pause a CD or DVD. F10 stop a CD or DVD. F11 play the previous track a CD or DVD. F12 play the next track of a CD or DVD. Scroll turn on Num Lock so you can use the numeric keypad. Press this key combination again to turn off Num Lock. The Num Lock status indicator appears when this function is turned on.

Your keyboard has "extra" keys:
* print-screen / system-request
* scroll-lock
* pause / break
* num lock

Press that "num lock" key.
For a laptop keyboard, you may have to hold down the 'FN' key,
at the same time that you press "num lock", to enable/disable this function.

Have you tried pressing Number Lock? The key may be labeled "Num Lock". If the Number Lock key is labeled with a different color than the letter keys, you may have to hold the corresponding colored key (like Fn or something) while pressing the Num Lock key.

You might check and clean the keyboard connection to the motherboard. However, usually this indicates keyboard failure. It's most likely that you're have to replace the keyboard.

Fn+Scroll will toggle the Num Lock
The ison on the keyboard is a purple Lock with the number 1 inside.
