The highest you can get up to is leopard 10.5. Unfortunately, after 10.5 Apple moved to Intel getting rid of the powermac processors.

Depending on your specs I would recommend sticking with tiger, but leopard should run fin on your powermac. It runs great on mine.

SOURCE: Installing windows XP

Push and hold "alt" or "option" on start up. It will bring up 2 folders, mac and windows. click mac to go back into that drive. Go to system prefs, then to drives and make your mac you primary drive so it defaults into mac on startup.

Upgrading 10.4 to 10.5 or 10.6

If you have 10.4, you probably have a PowerPC processor and can only upgrade to 10.5

I HAVE AN APPLE POWERBOOK G4 I PURCHASE FROM EBAY IT IS CURRENTLY RUNNING MAC OS 9 ,HOW CAN I UPGRADE TO OSX 10 ?

Hi Bobby
You will need to get an OS X installation DVD. Try eBay.Don't go for anything lower than 10.4 (Tiger)10.5 (Leopard) and 10.6 (Snow Leopard) should run fine on this machine.Don't bother with 10.7 or 10.8

I just got a used e-mac A1002 (1 Ghz/128/60/combo 56K. It has Mac OS X 10.3.3 installed. I'm having problems signing into G-mail. Facebook also appears as just text. As well, can't seem to play...

I would try and find the OS X Tiger installation disks off of eBay, and install Tiger so that you can at least install Firefox, even if it's an older version. Your computer won't be able to run much, because of the limited RAM, and the fact that the processor is extremely slow.

Hi, I have an IBook G4 running on OSX10 3.9. It doesn't run all

OSX 10.4 Tiger is not an upgrade, it is an update and you will need to buy the operating system. You should be able to pick it up on ebay or what I would do is seek advice on buying it from your local apple store.

Computer freezes at grey screen

  1. Start from your Mac OS X Install disc: Insert the installation disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
  2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
  3. Click the First Aid tab.
  4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
  5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
  6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.

Having problems with Quark 6.5 since upgrading to 10.4.11. It crashes unexpectedly especially when using magnif. tool. Is there a conflict with Quark 6 5 and OS 10 4 11? If so how can it be repaired?

You most likely do need to upgrade Quark. There is a known problem with 6.5 and Tiger, since 10.4 was a major departure from Jaguar, which Quark 6.5 was designed for.

Before you do that though, you might want to explore font cache issues that can also cause this. Here's a free tool and writeup on the subject: http://www.jamapi.com/pr/fn/

I inherited an imac g3.....

That Mac will run 10.4 Tiger, but I would recommend 10.3 Panther. You can download all updates through sofware update after the install is complete. You should be able to find installer disks on eBay for cheap.
