To boot up my computer I have to power it on and off many, many times before it will work. When I turn on my computer the screen is going all haywire with strange patterns and alot of colors. Once it boots up it will run and work fine for sometimes hours and sometimes minutes before freezing up and screen going haywire again. Is it fixable ??
I love posts that use haywire words...
really.
old Cq61 (310us) is it a 310? for sure, as the service tag shows?
no photo of screens, i can promise you that missing photo
is worth 1000 words !
does it run with them main battery out on line power AC?
it must for as long as you want too.
my guess, besides above test 1 on all laptops
is to
make sure its not overheating. and fan blows, and fan is not packed in lint if the GPU chip overheats it can go nuts. all can,.
we run temp monitor program that lets me see all that.
but im not teaching that now.
this PC has an LED screen so is very good.
but if hit, they break easy, super easy. kids playing thowing things at the screen or dropped PC.
The pC has and external VGA jack to test the PC on any VGA desktop monitor.. (barrow one for a day)

SOURCE: how do i remove the outer bezel on a compaq
1. Take the side door off as usual.
2. Locate the drive door lock inside the chassis.
3. Rotate the lock to the down position to unlock the upper front panel door.
4. Press the indentation located on the lower front panel to open the lower door.
5. Grasp under the bottom of the upper front panel door, lift up, and gently remove from the hooks. (Tip: The upper front panel door has finger holes.)
6. Remove any of the bay components by pressing both sides of the drive rails. There are no screws.
hope this helps...........

This makes me believe that your laptop has a memory problem. I suggest you to power off your laptop and eject the battery. Unscrew the screws that hold the memory cover. Discharge yourself touching a water pipe (no joke, this is to remove any static electricity from yourself that could destroy the memory). Eject the memory module(s) and reinsert them back. Take a look at this photo, it might help you:
If the problem disapear after that well done. If not you have to replace the memory module(s) with new ones.
More details about memory modules for your laptop you can finh at this official link.
