Formatting my Freeagent 1tb external hard drive for my Mac?

I have just bought a new Seagate FreeAgent (1tb) external hard drive, which I want to use mainly to transfer files from my OS X 10.5.6 Mac. It's been formatted for Windows though, I see. Can someone please take me step-by-step through the process of converting this for use with my Mac?
Many many thanks!

The problem is that your western digital operates using the NTFS (New Technology File System) which is the standard file system of Windows. Apple macs is not interopable with native NTFS therefore you need to install a read-write NTFS file-system driver on your mac.

an excellent free mac NTFS driver can be found here-
http://mac.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/NTFS-3G.shtml

download and install the software then restart your mac.

Installing 1tb External Hardrive from Freeagent onto Macbook Pro

I would be tempted to format the drive using the disk utility whch can be found under applications and then utilities once opened choose your drive in the left hand window and on the right hand side click on erase. If you are using the Seagate drive for the Mac only, format it as a Mac OS Extended (journaled) Choose your volume format and name and then erase. Hope this helps.

My stepson said that he "re-formatted" my new Seagate Free Agent USB 2.0 500 gigabyte desktop drive on my MAC. So, now when I plug it into my computer I don't see any icons or anything? I don't know what...

If the Seagate has been re-formatted, then you will have to go through the re-install of the drive to your MAC, the drive should have come with it's own formatting tools and drivers. These external drives usually respond better with a small program that installs a set of driver tools. If you do not have the original freeagent disc, go to the Seagate support page, look up the model of the drive and download the program and drivers for that model and version.

Hard Drive Buzzing and Wont work (Seagate External Freeagent 1TB)

You are in trouble!
The buzzing sound is the heads trying to realign themselves at the beginning of the platter.
You could try putting it on a side and hope gravity helps.
But i'm afraid its broke beyond repair.
