If this is eSATA, you must have an eSATA adapter card. If this is regular SATA, just plug it into the next SATA port on your motherboard. If you don't have any Sata ports, you must get a SATA adapter card. Make sure this is the same type as the DVD burner(eg SATA-to-SATA or SATA II-to-SATA II).Also remember that SATAII can run on SATA port at SATA speed, but running a SATA harddrive on a SATAII port can risk overheating it or damaging it if not set to run at SATA speed via device options. In most modern motherboards, sata ports are numbered, but SATA is cableselect by nature. Your motherboard and OS decide which devices connect in what order. You have very little control over this unless you are a techno-geek. Most SATA/SATA II ports come in sets of 4. You will usually start with the first on the left and work your way to the right as needed. Make sure to also connect power as well. If you don't have a sata power cord on your power supply, buy a SATA power adapter. It should be relatively cheap and will serve your purpose.

I have a an INTEL Motherboard Model DH55HC. I am installing a basic Internal DVD writer (DVR-A18M) Interface ATA/ATAPi-7. I have the power cable from the POWER SUPPLY in the correct plug. I attach the...

That motherboard doesnt support ATA it supports upto 6 SATA devices which is actually better and faster. You will need to take your DVD/RW back and ask to swap for a SATA and also make sure you buy a SATA cable and good thing is these are actually cheaper and faster. Its actually a very nice motherboard dont be disappointed. Cheers from Scott and plz vote

I have a dell computer and installing a samsung dvd-writer model sh-222 and it is not seeing it. How do the cable get installed on the slave or master?

if your using sata connect then it really does not matter the mother board will detect it as it wants though it should be plugged into master 1 and hdd into master 0 if your using the older type ribbon then you must make sure that the dvd player has its jumping pin plugged into slave at the back of the dvd writer. there is a small cluster of 6 pins with a small plastic jumper that needs to be put on were it says slave

best of luck need more help feel free to email

*Power cable from the PSU
*DVD writer if all cables are workin try to connect the dvd writer to a diff computer to check if it is faulty

You can connect any one of the ports. and you need to go to bios and enable the sata ports if its not done already..

If you have a normal CD Drive you can connect with IDE cable.

Sata power supply with ide only mother board?

Unlike IDE drive cables, which allow you to connect at least 2 drives to the same cable, SATA cables only allow one connection from motherboard to drive per cable. You can connect as many SATA drives to your motherboard as you have SATA connections.

System not recognizing dvd writer. new build. 2nd one I took the first one back thinking it was defective. HP dvd1270i dvd writer

Could be the motherboard's SATA connection is bad or not activated in the BIOS. I assume you have tested the SATA cable and verified that the SATA power connector is working. You may need to verify in the computer's BIOS that the SATA settings are on and correct. Do you have another SATA drive that is known to work that you can test in the computer to verify the SATA connection is working? Also some motherboards have a jumper on the board to disable and enable the SATA connection on the board. Verify that if there is a jumper it is in the correct position.

Samsung dvd writer

Most common problem is the "jumper" setting is wrong. You can do several things. Some you may already have done, but check it any way. 1. make sure the SATA cables are completely plugged in correctly. Power is plugged in. 2. Check the "jumper" on the back of the burner. Should be in "Slave" position even though the manual doesn't say it, it says "Master/Slave". 3. Go into "control panel", then to "system" then to "Hardware". Check to see if you have a "yellow !" for CD devices. If you do click on it and remove it. Close all windows and "restart". That should fix it. If it doesn't, check the "compatability" of the Motherboard per Samsungs website. Some mother boards are just not compatible. Might not hurt to check that first before you do anything else.
