Park the Honda Foreman on flat ground and leave the engine running for 5 minutes to allow the engine to warm up. Place the oil drain pan under the crank case drain plug. Turn the engine off.

    • 2
Remove the drain plug from the under side of the crank case using the ratchet set. Allow the engine oil to drain into the oil pan. Replace the plug to the bottom of the crank case and tighten the plug using the ratchet set.

Remove the small screw from the side of the crank case using the Allen wrench. Remove the cap labeled "OIL" from the top of the crank case. Insert the funnel into the hole where the oil cap was.

    • 4
Pour Honda 4-stroke engine oil into the funnel until the oil starts to come out of the hole where the small screw was on the side of the crank case. Once the oil starts to come out of the hole, stop pouring and replace the screw. Remove the funnel and replace the oil cap to the top of the crank case.

What type of oil do I use in the drive shaft of my 1994 honda shadow 1100. I have heard 90w, but have read on here to use other oils. What would be the best.

The final drive should use 80/90 hypoid gear oil for the worm gears. If you would like the final drive to run cooler (less friction) use synthetic hypoid gear oil. Use synthetic 80/90 hypoid gear oil and change it every other motor oil change.

When its cold it seems to slip out of gear rather than change to 3rd. aafter its warm it seems to run like a top

It will be good to have the gear box oil changed to confirm that the oil within is overused.
If the oil change solves the issue , then have the oil changed once again after the car runs for few months so that the gear box lubrication comes good.
if not the gear box has to be opened to check for faulty links or notches.

I don't know about the Hyosung, but most motorcycles, motor oil is the tranny oil, same thing. To drain the tranny, you drain the engine. My bike has a dry clutch, so it doesn't have any gear oil. But my Harley was different, it had 90 weight in the gear box and also had a dripper on the chain that would drop motor oil on the chain every couple minutes. Most people never change the gear oil. Most cars go for life without changing it. If you had a shaft drive rear end, it would be full of gear oil, Check it out. Hope this helps.

BMW 523 Auto gerbox when cold change from 1 to 2 gear is hard

hello there

The problem is with the gear oil. To keep ahead of the rest BMW started what they call life time oil for their gear boxes, though that sounds great it doesn't really work in reality, they have now gone back to recommending a gear oil change every 60k miles.

In short you need to change your gear oil and soon, the oil in your gear box is no longer effective and will damage the gear box. You'll need about 5 litres for your car and costs around £15 a litre, expensive stuff!! I had the same problem with my 328i auto, the dealer was clueless and kept quoting the lifetime oil, I changed the oil and the problem has gone and it's so much smoother.

Hope this helps, please don't forget to rate me.
