Dell Axim X5 Screen Back Light Trouble

The screen on my axim x5 won't light up i've tried the brightness and power settings but to no avail. A hard reset doesn't help either, could anyone suggest anything? Thanks Andy

    The screen flashed on then went off again. So it may something to do with this. Thanks for your response, you seem to know more than Dell themselves as i have phoned them and they did not suggest this!!!

    Same Problem..Light went out today and don't know how to turn back on.

Holding down the record button on these units turns the backlight on and off, since this is hardware controlled you should try this first. If you've performed a hard reset and held down record then this is most likely a physical fault, check with Dell to find out your warranty status and find out about the availability of replacement parts.

    LOL! Dell largely work script based, in other words the call agents don't actually know anything they just read you questions from they're computer and tick boxes on screen based on your answers. When Dell went script based years ago every one said it would be the end of them but they still sell (admittedly good products) as easily as they ever did.
    Anyway, if it worked once try it again, you may find it's a simple logic problem, also try brightness control mow that it has flashed on.
    And one last possible fix, since you've hard reset anyway you either have a backup of your data or a blank Pocket PC so:
    Remove both the main battery and the backup battery ***this will destroy ALL your personal data on the device*** so back up any personal data first. With both removed hold down the Power (on) button for 30 seconds (time it, it will seem to take forever) to reset the chip-set, then reinsert both batteries and try it again.

    Sorry, that line should read: 'also try brightness control NOW that it has flashed on' not "also try brightness control mow that it has flashed on". :-)

try a hard reset

Dell Axim x50 / x50v / x51 / x51v:

Make sure the device is on before performing hard reset. To hard reset, press and hold the power button and press in on the reset button (reset hole) on the back of the unit for about 2-3 seconds. Release both buttons and you will see a confirmation screen asking you if you would like to clear all data in memory. To do so press the Contacts button. To cancel press the Mail button.

IT may be that the mainboard is faulty and would need to be replaced.

My Axim X5 is not operating. Green lite is on when it is in craddle. did try resets and it still is not operating at all.

back up your data then perform a hard reset

To perform a hard reset:
1 Press and hold the power button.
2 With the stylus, hold the reset button for about 2 seconds.
3 Follow the instructions on the screen.

note:
When you perform a hard reset, you lose all the data stored on your device.

Axim X5 just does not RESPOND!

I'm not sure but after that long, could it be the back up battery?

Axim x5 sd not reading

I would think it is having more trouble with the adapter than the actual card. It could also be the storage size of the card that is the problem as well. Try a regular 2GB SD Card and see if it works. If it does, then it is probably just the adapter.

You could get original disk from ebay at times but all you need is the Activesync that can be downloaded from Microsoft. Get Active sync 4.2. The newer ones do NOT work with the X5.

Good luck with the wireless card. The Axim does not play well with many of them. (sometimes works but mostly not) Try drivers from d Link and be sure to remove the old drivers first.

Axim X5 Align Screen Loop

I am by no means an expert but I have had the same problem that you are having and I found that after I took my X5 apart and cleaned around the underside edge of the plastic housing frame that was at the edge of the screen the problem went away. I also cleaned the front of the screen very well and put a new back-up battery in. I have not had the problem since.

Backlight not working

Did you try to set the Backlight on in the control panel? (settings>system>brightness) The brightness is often automatically set to 0. If you did this already and it still doesn't work, probably try an email.

Compact Flash 802.11b card?

just a guse but the batery looks to have enouth mA to run a CF 802.11b card and an sd blue touth card i think if you will be connected to a network or a wifi connection i would invest the money in the 3400MAH insted of the 1440MAH.
