I am almost sure that you, by accident of course, switched the memory blocs, so that you have put in one 256MB and one 512MB.

first off what i would do is contact the manufacture of the computer and tell them what you are wanting to do . The reason for this is so u dont void the warranty if there is one, and also they can tell you exactly what kind of memory you will need to do the upgrade so you dont waste money getting somthing you dont need ok i hope this helps you out... best regards mike

yes it can be upgrade for 4GB for genuine HP memory. because hp exclusively use hp memory. all Hp pcs uses genuine hp memory.
