Hi guys, my 896 has been working fine, but since moving around a bit the device still turns on and everything but my computer won't detect it. even when i turn on motu audio setup it wont see the 896... any ideas?
I have had the same issue with my 896. Your only option is to get it servived by a motu, or audio equivilant technician. Its not a major problem that you have, but the firwire contacts have loosened to the point of lost signal. It wont talk with your computer unless that firewire connector is solid. The moving is what did this, Once i moved mine a few times same thing happened. If you're on a tight budget you can teach yourself how to sauder online then you can cimply pop off the back plate remove the old connector, replace it and sauder into place. Hope this was helpful

My MOTU 896 HD worked fine until one day i let a friend borrow it. I checked to make sure everything worked by showing him how to properly put it all together. He set it up at his house and it would not detect the MOTU.
I got it back from him, and tried fixing it by reinstalling the software, and my cd drive ended up disappearing from my computer. I eventually fixed that problem, but then realized the the plug and play driver was corrupted while searching in device manager. I fixed that by reinstalling windows xp.
I installed Xp with sp3 not knowing that that could cause driver problems. So I installed the MOTU from the cd and hooked up my MOTO 896HD and turned it on and I got no response. I tried installing everything on an older computer, and yet again no response. Took the MOTU to work and plugged it in to my computer at work just to try and get a response, and nothing.
I am pretty certain it has to do with the MOTU interface, but I could be wrong. Kinda sad that such an expensive piece of equipment can fall apart just like that though.
While it was working, it did sound beautiful.
Same thing here. Tried hooking this thing up to my sister's mac because she wanted to listen to some stuff on it. Doesn't get detected anymore. If you have an answer please please post!
