If its a IDE (PATA not SATA) verify the jumpers settings and on all verify if the disk make suspect noise, try to change the data wire and return it if there are a waranty and it make suspect noise and\or if it dont work
If you are asking about a service center to fix your drive so you can recover your data. You might want to try a remote data recovery service like this guy first. http://FreeDataRecovery.us
Otherwise if you do not care about the data it's almost always cheaper to just buy a replacement drive.
If the drive is not spinning up, then you may have a damaged pcb,
Have you tried this drive on another system. If your drive uses the mini USB connector. I have found
that the solder joint is not soldered properly, I had the same issue, then upon soldering the connection USB connector at the pcb of the enclosure( not the drive) this fixed the problem. Let me know what you find,

Either the blocks on the disk normally occupied by the "Table Of Contents" for the files on the disk has been accidentally overwritten by "random" bytes, or those blocks have become unreadable.
Say 'yes' to allow Windows to reformat the disk, and write a new (but "empty") "Table Of Contents" file onto the disk.
i almost have the same problem, i bought the Western Digital My Passport Essential 500GBfrom a week ago and i left the drve connected to the laptop and copying data from an old WD drive and after couple of hours i found an error appearing.......then i clecked okay and restarted the laptop and from then my Western Digital My Passport Essential 500GBdoesn't appear in my computer drive list nor in the device manager. i just cut my precious data from the other drive.
I did this once had to solder an interconnect to the other side of the connection of the PCB then use a small croc clip to make the other connection worked just fine just not aesthetic
It's not a new hard drive casing that you need, rr_atl, it's a replacement power supply. Western Digital is well know for selling very poorly manufactured power supplies with this hard drive series. The problem you described is a bad power brick.
good day sir/maam, try to scan first you pc with antivirus software. there are viruses that can harm your drive. if you cant find any viruses, format it on a friend PC with a good antivirus program. still cant detect? chances are your 320 gb hard drive is done, my guess is the interface circuit, but you can get the internal unit. dismantle the passport to get the drive. use it as your separate internal hard drive. If things still cant be solve, sad to say this you need to buy a new one. hope this helps. feel free to ask again. thanks
