I had a similar problem. The frost in the back is an indication that your coils are frozen. This could be from food packages falling out of the freezer drawers in the back and blocking the air circulation vents or maybe the freezer door was not closed completely and letting moist/humid air in and freezing the coils.
For me it was the first problem listed.I had to completely empty the freezer and Frig. and take the back panel off in the freezer. There you will see the coils and lots of ice!
1. Remove all items from the frig. and freezer and unplug frig.
2. Pull all the freezer drawers out.
3. On my GE side by side I took the light cover off and removed the bulb. There you will see two panel screws. Remove the screws.
4. Now pull out the mouldings on each side and you should be able to remove the panel.
5. Take a hair drier and completely defrost all the ice from the coils.
Be sure to keep plenty of towels handy for all the water mess. Remember to keep an eye on the drain tray in the back of the frig. and use a sponge to collect the water that will build up.
Hope this helps!.....

Why are only drawers in fridge cold & not making ice?

Contact a professional. Sounds like either your damper door is not operating correctly and not letting enough cool air from the freezer enter, or there is an air leak that is making ice form .

Frozen water dispenser

Take a small hand cloth or a 6-inch by 6-inch cloth and wrap it around the water line where it freezes up. This will help insulate the line. Failing this, do you see frost or ice forming anywhere specifically around the door - if so, the door seal would need to be replaced at a cost dramatically less than US$400.

Hello, Most times this is a bad cold control, but there are other things to check for. Make sure the condenser fan is working and the coils are not covered with dust. A separated heat exchanger ( small capillary tubing soldered to the large suction line ) can separate from one another and make the fridge run too long. - tape tubing back together. A poor working evaporator fan motor could also make the fridge run too long and freeze - replace the fan motor. An inefficient compressor or refrigeration system could make the fridge run too long and freeze - have a service tech check this out. A misaligned control settings, make sure the air damper and cold control have not been bumped and are out of normal settings. Stuck open air diffusers or air dampers are becoming more and more common for allowing too much air to be blown into the fresh food section and freezing things. On all frost free fridge's the freezer temp air is blown into the fresh food section, if you have "easy" to freeze items ( eggs, veggies in water, etc ) in front of or under where the freezer temp air comes out, they could freeze - store them in a different spot. Doors not closing properly making the fridge run too long is something else to check for.the air dceflector, As you know, the deflector directs the freezer air toward the front of the frig and the rear of the cold control

Ice Maker frost and freeze where ice drops into refrigerator door

You need a service guy to look at it. It could be water leaking or a simple case that the flap isnt sealing and the ice melts and then freezes the flap open

Ice is forming at the bottom of the freezer and freezing the bottom draw shut. it doesn't appear to be leaking and the door shuts properly. it's supposed to be a frost free freezer....

Causes:

High humidity in the immediate area causing condensation to freeze at the door opening

A frozen defrost drain line not allowing water to drain off when the unit is in defrost

A bad door gasket causing an air leak

Some freezers have a heated perimeter to reduce condensation. If the stop working, moisture can accumulate arounf the door perimeter and freeze.

Leaving the door open too long or something obstructing the door
