Bosch Side by Side, top shelves dont freeze food, bottom does

Ice maker stopped working and water drips from ice maker. Top shelf closest to ice maker will not freeze food but the rest of the food is freezing fine. Water drips from ice maker. It was making really small cubes of ice before it stopped working.

Majority of refrigerators today are equipped with an automatic icemaker. The water valve supplying the icemaker is a key component of the icemaking system, and it should be the first thing you check if the icemaker's performance is erratic or if the icemaker stops working. When the icemaker calls for ice, its switch closes an electrical circuit and energizes the solenoid-operated water valve. This allows water to flow through the valve and into the ice cube tray. The water is frozen into cubes, and the cubes are dumped into the ice bin. As time passes, strange things may happen to the refrigerator's icemaking capability. The cubes may be small or there may be a solid chunk of ice instead of individual cubes. It's also possible that the icemaker will stop working. These are all signs of a malfunctioning water valve. The valve is equipped with a screen on its inlet to remove minerals and sediments in the water supply. Over time, minerals and sediment build up on the screen and restrict flow through the valve, or even block it completely. Minerals that make it through the screen can cause the valve to stick in the open position, overfilling the ice cube tray in the process. This is a common problem in areas with hard water, but it can happen just about anywhere. Another malfunction that will cause the icemaker to stop working is a break in the solenoid coil winding. This is known as an open coil. The coil winding generates a magnetic field as current passes through it, and this magnetic field opens the plunger valve that controls water flow. A break in the coil winding stops current flow and this prevents the valve from operating. Test And Inspect The icemaker's valve is easy to inspect and test. First, gently pull the refrigerator away from the wall, and unplug it. Turn off the water supply to the icemaker by closing the shut-off valve in the copper waterline leading to the valve (Fig. 1). Use a screwdriver or nutdriver to remove the rear lower access panel from the refrigerator's back. Next, remove the fill tubing from the water valve. Use a wrench to loosen the flare nut on the brass fitting on the inlet side of the valve (above). Place a container under the valve to catch the small amount of water that will spill from the valve and tubing. Now use a screwdriver or a nutdriver to remove the screw holding the valve's mounting bracket to the refrigerator cabinet (Fig. 2). Pull the valve out of the compartment and remove the tube on the valve's outlet. Then, remove the solenoid's electrical contacts (Fig. 3).

1-Begin the repair by unplugging the refrigerator and shutting off the water flow to the icemaker.

2-The icemaker's water valve is attached to the refrigerator cabinet by means of a bracket. Remove the bracket screws.

To test the solenoid valve, use a multimeter (also called a volt-ohm meter). Set the meter to the RX-100 scale. Touch the probes to each terminal on the solenoid coil (Fig. 4). The meter should read in the range of 200 to 500 ohms.
If the meter needle does not move, the coil is bad. You may be able to purchase the coil separately from the valve. If not, you will need to replace the entire valve. An icemaker valve costs about $30 to $50 from the manufacturer or an appliance parts distributor.
If the coil tests okay, the inlet filter is probably clogged. To clean the filter, first remove the large brass nut on the inlet side of the valve. Then gently pry the screen out with a small screwdriver. Clean the screen using an old toothbrush (Fig. 5). Rinse the filter clean, reassemble the valve and install it.
Before installing the back panel on the refrigerator cabinet, test run the icemaker. Look for leaks, and tighten any leaky connections. If necessary, use Teflon tape or a similar product to ensure tight connections. Discard the first ice cubes that are produced because they are likely to have sediment in them.

3-Two wires supply power to the valve. Gently disconnect the wires to test the solenoid coil's resistance.

4-The multimeter will read 200 to 500 ohms if the coil is good. If the meter's needle does not move, the coil is open.

Hi What can I do if my Bosch refrigerator starts freezing, even on the top shelves The freezer is on the bottom I think it started when Ice maker stopped working, then water dispenser and now everything...

Here is a possible fix I used on a different brand. Unplug your fridge and let it completely thaw. Sometimes drains and controls get frozen from condensation and auto defrost drains also freeze up. Make sure you have some towels to soak up any possible flooding as the catch tray may overflow. Your food should be put into cooler to stop it from thawing. This will take 5 - 6 hours. Good luck!

Water inside on shelves can not determine where it is coming from checked back of refrigerator can not see any leaks inside or outside. cleaned up water cleaned under fins etc one day later more water...

A temporary solution is to remove all frozen food, ice tray, shelf and bottom plate. you will see the water drain trench and a drain hole in the back center of the freezer. Unplug the drain, free it from ice or debris and flush with hot water. I have the same problem with my frig. This is not a permeant fix, but it will stop water from dripping through the vent ports The defroster may be defective or the air flow is too restricted. Good luck.

GE Profile PSS26PSTA SS freezer problem

Forget the warranty - it is only for the compressor and that is usually five years. Did you check for freezer temp - wet cubes indicates too warm up there. Water dispenser lines may be clogged.

If low temps you may have low refrigerant or a defrost mechanism not working - if not working there should be ice buildup on line entering the evaporator in back of compartment.

Water dripping from freezer onto top shelf of fridge with ice buildup back of freezer

the defroster isn't close enough to the drain to be effective. remove the back wall of the inside of the freezer, remove the excess ice. clear out the ice from the drain using hot water and a turkey baster. there is a kit from whirlpool that uses a piece of metal and a screw around the defrost rod, but I found out that a piece of 14 gauge solid core wire with the insulation stripped off works great too. stick the stripped wire into the drain, 2 to 3 inches, and wrap the rest around the defrost rod.

WATER AND ICE INSIDE MY FRIG

Most likely whats happening is you have a frozen drain for the defrost cycle. here are step by step instrutions for repair
  • Unplug refrigerator
  • unload food from freezer
  • remove icemaker if present (there are 3 screws remove the one on the bottom and loosen the 2 on top of icemaker then lift it off the 2 screws unplug from wiring harness)
  • remove 2 screws holding rear cover in place
  • move cover to the side or remove from unit altogether
  • defrost any and all ice from bottom of freezer and aluminum drain pan that is now exposed
  • flush drain hole that you will see once ice is cleared with warm water. (sometimes I use a large syringe or turkey baster to forcefully flush hot water thru the drain tube)
  • reassemble in reverse order

These are general instrutions for most top freezer refrigs. but if you need more specific directions dont hesitate to ask Thanks Peyton

Frididaire side by side refrigerator- water freezing in bottom

Frozen or Plugged Defrost Drain

On Side By Side Refrigerator

The defrost drain pan is located at the bottom of the freezer compartment behind the back wall of the freezer. On some models the pan is accessible without removing the back panel and others are not.

Once you get to the defrost drain pan use a hair dryer to melt the ice from the pan.

Once the ice is removed use a turkey baster like this one: Turkey Baster http://www.repairclinic.com/SSPartDetail.aspx?PartID=428708&PPStack=1

To squirt hot water into the drain hole to clear the drain.

When the drain is clear you should hear or see the water you are squirting into the hole enter the pan under or behind the refrigerator.
