I have a maytag mdb7100Aww. It is about 8 years old. When we go through a wash cycle the washer seems to leak out the bottom of the door. The doors seals have just been replaced and the inner door panel has been replaced. I wonder if it has something to do with the float. The float looks like a mushroom and the inside of the float was caked with grease and junk. I cleaned it the best I could. When we run the dishwasher now it seems to leak less. I wonder with the build up on the inside of the float if this has added more weight to the float and consequently the heavier float causes the dishwasher to overfill.
Your thoughts
You definitely have to have a clean......float clean from all debris...it is very typical for the float to cause leaking problems ..as it is an overflow switch....also drying agents...that are used...especially if any is spilled inside will foam up and cause an overflow as well as liquid detergents that are not specified by the maker of your DW....these foam also....(if to much is used)...but the float will not push down on the switch if it is completely free from gunk.
I hope this helps.....good luck...thanks for rating my effort....the Fang.
I'm sorry I thought you had cleaned it before...'...but no it is very easy just pull up on it and if you have to soak it in very hot water for a while to loosen up any debris for thorough cleaning...when you replace it...make sure that as you put it back in place lift it up and down a few times listening for a clicking noise ....this is the relay that shuts of the inlet of water......you might want to make certain there is nothing in the hole the valve inserts to...you can clean these with something akin to a long q-tip or piece of wire....or anything that will insert into the hole to push debris through just make certain that you here the clicking when you are through...Now I pulled out a.service manual and made this list of things that can cause a leak a round the door......
Leaks at the door:
Door
gasket loose/torn
Corner
gaskets or door baffle/vent gasket
Door
lock/latch loose/broken
Split
spray arm
Over
filling with water...usually the level is just under the heating element
is normal
Something
leaking through the door...like the soap or rinse agent dispenser gasket,
silverware basket button.
Door
hinge(s) bent
Wrong
soap was used...dish sink soap instead of dishwasher soap
Rinse
aid being used with mechanically softened water ( makes foam or suds
inside the dishwasher )Good Luck let me know how it works out....the Fang.
