My Whirlpool cooktop igniters won't stop firing, even when I turn on the gas and there is a flame. In order to get then to stop firing, I have to unplug the cooktop. As soon as I plug the cooktop again. the igniters keep firing. The only way ti stop the igniters is to unplug the cooktop. Do you know how to fix this type of problem. Thanks.
When you cleaned the unit you may have gotten water in side the igniter, dry it out w/ a hair dryer. Once dry should work .
When you turn the knobs on the cooktop, you are rotating a gas valve and a switch that activates the ignitors. This is a rotary switch that closes at the ignite point and sends current to the spark module. All burners will then produce sparks. Each burner switch is wired in parallel. If one switch does not fully open, all the burners will constantly get sparks. You need to check each switch for a short. They are replaceable.
