Zone 2 issues

I have an amplifier hooked up to the zone2 outputs on my Rx-z9, outputs are going to the main-in on the external amp. When I go to use zone2 (audio only), which as I understand, I should be able to hear any other separate available source than the one playing in the main source, however I cannot hear any other source other than the Tuner which is a source internal to the Z9, all other sources which are external (DVD, cable, satellite) do not play through Zone2. I have followed all the instructions in the Z9 instruction book (however limited), but cannot figure out why I can only hear the Tuner, my other available sources will not play through zone2. All other sources are connected to my Z9 through a Toslink connection. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

Yamaha rx-a770 - how to connect a tape deck? Need a line level output - will Zone2 provide?

You can connect a tape deck for playback at sockets Audio 4 or 5. But there is no direct connection for the recording side.
Zone 2 is for connection to an external amp for extension speakers.
Not certain it would work for recording purposes.

Our 2nd zone won't work, we get the error saying check SP wires. The wires seem connected correctly. We also can't change the volume on zone 2. The Yamaha unit is working otherwise.

Hi,

U cant get an amplified out put form ur av receiver for zone 2. speaker a A and B is the same out put of frond left and right. it is not ZONE 2 output. U can get only a pre output for zone to from this receiver. U nee a separate stereo amplifier for using zone 2 .put an amplifier in the other room, connect the zone 2 pre out to it. And do the following setup in ur av receiver .

The receiver shows check speaker cable because its amplifier minimum impedance is 8 ohms . when u connect other speaker in speaker the total impedance will come under 4 ohms. Speaker b is not ZONE 2 in this amplifier

1. press the input selector button A or B to select the source component you want to setup.

2. press and hold LEARN (on remote) button about 3 seconds by using a boll pen or similar object ( SETUP and the selected component name appear alternately in the display window.)

3. press up or down arrow to select "zone2"

4. press LEARN to complete the Zone 2 setup.

5. press source select up arrow to display Zone2 in the window.

6. press an input selector button to select input source u want to listen to in the second room

7. u can control the component by using the component control area button

ok

I have a Yamaha RX-797 reciever and wish to install an outdoor speaker system through the zone2 outlet. Do you know if I can go from the zone2 outlet through the coupler jacks to the speakers so I can...

Hello sounds like you want to take the low level zone 2 output and run it to the PRE AMP in?

If that is correct the onboard amplifier will power your speakers but will no longer provide sound for your main channel as you are removing the "loop" which send the front L & R signal to the amp.

Your best bet is to find an inexpensive secondary amplifier.

Sonance makes a sonamp 260 or 260x3. These are available on ebay for under $100 and work great for multiroom applications.
A 260x3 would give you 3 speaker outputs allowing you to run not only to your patio but also to two other locations and includes a switch to turn each zone on/ off.

Hope that helps

I want to output blu ray dvd output in zone 2. Denon AV 4308

correct. in order to enjoy your digital sources in any zone2 configuration, an additional connection has to be made to the analog input from and for each of these devices.
some receivers wont allow internal xm, sirius and ipods to work in zone2 because they are input to the digital board and thats what your stuck with.

never use the phono input this is for turntables, connect this amp to your speaker switch/selector then to speakers.

Zone2 problem

I had the same problem.  Yamaha's web-site states that the zone 2 and zone 3 can only be driven from analog inputs (RCA stereo input jacks), not digital inputs.  If your media center is hooked up with digital connections (such as HDMI), it will not feed the zone 2 or 3.  Yamaha's web-site suggest hooking up both analog and digital feeds.  It claims that the digital will drive the main zone and the analog will drive the other zones.
Good luck...
