Netgear SmartWizard Help

My internet is down (I am currently "borrowing" neighbors) and I am in the Netgear router manager in the basic settings (Netgear model wgr614v6) and it is asking for IP Address, IP Subnet Mask, Primary DNS and Secondary DNS. I don't have a clue.

Is there an option to use a dynamically assigned IP address (also called DHCP)?

That's most likely the option you need, almost all home Internet providers use DHCP to assign the information you are asking for automatically to your Internet connected device (in this case, your router).

Let me know what options are available to you if neither Automatic or DHCP is.

Thanks!

How to Install Netgear Router Using the Wireless Device

hi john.
To install your NETGEAR wireless router using your wireless device:
  1. Get the preset wireless settings of your NETGEAR router. It is written on the back or at the bottom of your device.
  2. On your wireless device, open the WiFi connection manager and find the SSID or WiFi network name of your NETGEAR router.

I have a MiniDell Inspiron Netbook that will connect to the internet through a neighbor's WiFi, but will not connect through my own Netgear router. The router is working fine for 2 other connections. How...

You may want to do a reset on the router by holding down the reset button on the back of your router. That will reset and MAC address filtering or any other security that you might have turned on.

I don't know how to connect my second laptop to the netgear router to get internet service.

Go to the first pc that is already connected. Right click your connection and note the status/advanced information, find the gateway IP address. Open a web browser and login to your netgear router. NetGear default is admin and password.

Now go to the wireless setup, note the ssid or name of your wifi network, also note the security encryption and phrase you are using. If you don't remember you can set it again there and save but then you will need to reconnect to it, if all else fails use a data cable and plug directly up to the router to manage it.

Once you know your wifi name and security key you setup, go to pc 2 and use the wireless utility scan or refresh you should see the name of your wifi network, click join to connect, it will challange you for the password. It if doesn't then all of your neighbors can use your internet and access your computers. Need to be sure to secure your wifi signal by managing it via the web management using your web browser.

Netgear dg834 configuration

All you should need to do is go through the basic setup screens and enter your talk talk username and password - the rest of the settings should remain as default.
If you can logon to your old router, have a look at all the settings and copy them down to enter into the new router.
Let me know if you still have problems (I'm on talktalk too)

Netgear DG834G v3 Installation

connect the yellow (or blue?) ethernet cable to your computer, this should connect to the router (router should be ON)

Now, in internet explorer type 192.168.0.1 (this should be the defualt gateway for the router on default settings.

Now you're into the router, there should be a setup wizard button in there.

See if you can set it up using that
