My lawn mower will not stay started

The lawn mower is a poulan pro, with a 22 inch blade.  It had been sitting for about three years.  It will start right up, but about 3 seconds later, it dies

Since it starts, it doesn't sound like an electrical problem, it sounds like it runs out of air. To test this, remove the air filter, start it and see if it stays running. If so, replace the air filter.

It could also be varnish or sludge in the carb bowl. This is best serviced by a technician if you have little mechanical prowess.

After sitting for 3 years, I would at minimum do all of this before I expected it to run ok:

  1. Change the oil.
  2. Replace the air filter.
  3. Drain the fuel tank by removing the fuel line from the engine end (not the tank end).
  4. Replace the spark plug.
If the above did not work I would drop the carb bowl and clean it, then add one ounce of carb cleaner to a full tank, and let it run (roughly if necessary) through the engine.

After sitting 3 years I would also replace the fuel line itself!

Lawn mower starts then stalls out and won't restart. Blades won't turn when the engine starts.

It's not getting enough fuel to the carb. It may have some water in the fuel so unless you are 100%certain it is good gas then I recommend draing all the gas out of the tank and also removing the carb and clean it.

Looking for 22" blade for a Poulan - PO550N22SH - PN 961120080 - where can I buy a lawnmower blade? Can find the number on the internet, but can't find a dealer that sells this product.

Your Poulan Pro mower is made by American Yard Products and the parts will interchange directly with Craftsman 22" mowers. You should be able to find a replacement at your local Sears store. All of these part #s are also 22" AYP blades:
AYP #'s

95-055

The different #'s should all fit. Some of them are bagging style blades (high lift) while others are designed to mulch.

I have a constant vibration when running my poulan pro self propelled 22 inch cut lawn mower. any solutions to the problem......

My guess is that you have hit something pretty solid while mowing. You have either bent the blade, bent the crankshaft, or both. To check for a bent crankshaft, set the mower up on a table or tailgate where the handle is on the ground and the spark plug is pointed into the air. DISCONNECT THE SPARK PLUG !!! You don't want to risk starting it in this position. While a friend holds the engine brake lever closed, and pulls the rope, you need to watch the blade bolt. If the bolt spins without wobbling, just replace the blade. If the bolt wobbles, then the crankshaft is bent. A bent crankshaft can be straightened by a reputable shop. Not all shops are will to straighten crankshafts. It is not a cheap repair.

How to change oil in poulan 500 lawn mower

First remove the spark plug wire from the spark plug. Then tilt the handles down to the ground. It helps to have something you can slide the handles under or otherwise hold them down. Underneath the mower deck there will be a drain plug. You are in front of the unit facing it the drain plug will be at about 7-o'clock a few inches from the cranckshaft. It will have a square hole in it. Use an extension on a 3/8ths drive ratchet in the square hole and remove the plug. Be careful not to cut yourself on the blade, I usually remove the blade first and sharpen it while the oil is draining. Loosening the dipstick from the tube on top will help it drain faster. When its done draining replace the plug and reinstall the blade if it was removed. Then refill from the dipstick tube. The unit will take approx. 22 ounces of oil. Do not overfill.

Where is the oil drain plug for a poulan self propelled 22 inch 625 series mower

remove spark plug wire from plug, tip machine on its side.look under blade for a threaded plug with a square head where bottom of motor protrudes through deck.on most models you can simply tip machine over far enough to allow oil to drain out the dipstick[filler]tube.
