Using JBL 4410 3-Way crossover, trying to use PG 12" Dual 4-ohm

Using JBL 4410 3-Way crossover, I'm trying to hookup a Phoenix Gold (PG) 12" woofer with dual 4ohm inputs on each side of the speaker. If I just hook up one side, it clips and the amp's protection circuit kicks in as soon as I turn up the volume. I tried jumping minus to minus and plus to plus but doesn't seem to work... I haven't tried plus to minus and minus to plus... I'm afraid of either damaging either the speaker or crossover at this point. I need this speaker to look like an 8 ohm to the cross over.

Ok, connect the amp positive to the positive end of one sub coil, take the negative of that coil, and run it to the positive of the second sub coil, then run the negative out of the second sub coil to the negative of the amp.

What is the difference between 12" Infinity-Watkins Dual-Drive woofer and Infinity Watkins Dual Voice Coil 12" woofer #85140178 for Quantum 2,3,4,5 QLS. Can I use Infinity Watkins Dual Voice Coil 12"

Watkins woofers are not a normal dual voice coil woofer. They are designed to be used with a special crossover that when one coil starts rolling off due to rising impedance the other takes over to extend the bass frequencies lower. vauygorgxmaaaaaasuvork5cyii=

Find a JBL n24aw replacement speaker

Looks like the woofer is a 4" Polyplas shielded driver, part #NS-W4SS, 4 ohms. If JBL can't supply a replacement try looking at Madisound or Partsexpress. Find a 4" 4 ohm woofer or mid-bass driver with a round frame. Check the actual measurements against your driver because not all "4 inch" drivers are the same size or bolt pattern. Make sure the depth will fit. You don't need "shielded" unless the speakers will be right up against a CRT (and nobody uses CRTs these days). Get a pair and replace both because the new driver certainly won't match the old.

Take a look at the Dayton Audio RS100-4 from Parts Express (or Amazon). The Hi-Vi M4N from Madisound "may" work but it is 8 ohms. http://www.jbl.com/resources/Brands/jbl/Products/ProductRelatedDocuments/en-US/TechnicalSheet/NSP1%20SAT%20ts.pdf

Can i use a 300 watt amp for 2, 800 watt woofers

yes, but you would not get the same performance as you would if you gave them the suggested power. I have found that it is always better to use a more powerful amp than your subs are rated for (as long as it is clean, high quality, low distortion power). I have had the best luck with name brand amps (kicker, rockford fosgate, phoenix gold,etc...). I hope this will be helpful to you.

Why does the kenwood kac-9103d has two sets of terminals if its a one channel amp so how do i hook up a dual 12 phoniex gold 1200 watt sub to it

Hello damasogrizzl,

The 2 sets of terminals are connected internally. Having 2 sets just makes it more convenient when wiring multiple subs. The amp is rated for 900 watts RMS into a 2 ohm load. The specs claim that it is stable at 1 ohm but does not give a power rating.

The Radial SD competition series from Phoenix Gold are rated to handle up to 600 watts RMS. If you have the model RSdC124 with dual 4 ohm voice coils, it would be best to wire the voice coils in parallel for a 2 ohm load and connect the sub to one set of terminals on the amp. If your sub is the model RSdC122 with dual 2 ohm voice coils, you should wire the voice coils is series for a 4 ohm load and connect the sug to one set of terminals on the amp. Wiring the voice coils in parallel will result in a 1 ohm load. And, while the amp may be stable at 1 ohm, the sub will be seriously overpowered.

Hope this helps.

I have 2 positives and 2 negatives on back of my alphasonik sub, do i connect amp to one side or both sides?

Hello gaz69,

Your PSW815 has 2 ohm dual voice coils allowing you to better match the impedance to your amp. Each voice coil is 2 ohms. If you wire them in parallel (both +'s together and both -'s together and then to the amp terminals), the sub presents a 1 ohm load which is too low for most amps. Wiring the voice coils in series (one + to the other - and the remaining + and - to the amp terminals) results in a 4 ohm load.

This link shows the wiring diagram for both options. If you know for sure that your amp is 1 ohm stable, use Wiring Option #1. If the amp is not 1 ohm stable, use Wiring Option #2.

Hope this helps.

I have a jbl W15GTi MKII 15 inch and on the speaker it has to a a an b side and two wires no each side how do you hook it up

Your speaker has dual voice coils. You can hook it up so that it is 2 ohm or 4 ohm depending on wat the amp can handle. You can try hooking it up by matching the colors or like any other speaker.
