Hi, Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

check out this following options one by one to locate the fault in your machine.
1)Check for drum bearing failure if your washing machine is noisy on the spin cycle. Drum bearing failure is common when the bearing seals start allowing water to enter. You can take the belt off and spin the drum by hand, and if the drum rumbles, replace the bearings.2)Turn the drum by hand and listen for loud noises. If the drum itself is split or the 'spider' is corroded, broken or has come apart from the back of the drum it will create a loud noise on every turn of the drum. (When the bearings have gone bad, the noise is constant the entire time the drum is spinning.)3)Look for obvious dents and creases in the drum or look for coins or small objects stuck inside the tub underneath the drum when a horrendous noise is made while clothes are in the tub.4)Clear thewater pumpfrom obstructions like coins or small objects when a noise occurs while the washing machine is emptying water.5)Remove the sump hose and look for bra wires if you hear a light scraping noise when the drum is turned by hand. You can also check to make sure a wire isn't poking out of one of the holes in the drum. In this case, you can pull the wire out easily with pliers.6)Take the belt off and run the motor alone if you hear a high pitched squealing noise to check for motor bearing damage or wear. If you still hear the noise without the belt, it's the motor bearing.
As washing machines age some of the bearings and seals can begin to wear. After 3 years this wear my cause some noise but will not harm the operation of the appliance. Occasionally debris may become lodged around the drum. Visually check the drum for any lodged clothing, coins, plastic, etc. If you feel confident enough, remove the cover on the washing machine and check the drain for large debris.
If all else fails, installing an anti-vibration pad can lessen the amount of vibration/noise that you hear. Basically, even a small amount of vibration noise like you are describing can be amplified when it transfers to the floor of your laundry room. Try installing a set of small rubber anti-vibration pads like Silent Feet and you might be pleasantly surprised by the improvement.
If the noise gets worse or changes to a thumping or knocking, call you appliance technician or let me know. That may be the sign of something more serious, but I wouldn't be worried right now.

I think that the drum bearings have gone on the machine..
To open the door and spin the empty drum quickly by hand and you should
hear the noise or say a less amplifed one.. You can also move the inner drum up and down to see if there is something wrong with it..
Ours started knocking several months ago and then progressed to a high pitched sound when in the spin cycle. I manually turned the drum and heard and felt a bearing roughness. I lifted the drum assembly and felt a fair amount of play, which I think the initial knocking noise came from. On the sears web site a new rear drum mount cost 293.00. Today we went and bought a LG model wm2455hw at Home depot, on sale until 2/20/08. I couldn't see paying to repair a machine that only lasted four years.
