Older model---it should when you try to turn it on have the red light blink for several seconds (set is checking things inside) and if comes on and shuts off that light should blink a specific sequence of blinks----5 blinks and repeat it endlessly---
I have a stupid question: when it first failed did you hear a small pop or smell a faint odor of something burning?
Hi,do you hear any strange noises? I had the exact same problem. Camera turned on but turned off soon after, with lens still outside. I noticed the lens was crooked as if it was stuck. I pulled it out and I heard it click into place, for a second I thought I had broken it. I then turned it on and everything was working again ! Whew ! Problem Solved :D Good luck!!
