successfully repaired shorted transistors & related resisitors on this unit 3-4 years ago. Then was in protect mode not fuse. Think your solution likley correct.Curious as to why fuse now & not protect as before.

hard to say. Possibly if it's the same channel as before, the new resistors are rated for a higher current and are not blown. Have seen many times where either the fuse blows and the resistors are fine, or the resistors burn up and the unit goes into protect and the fuse is fine.

Problem is most likely shorted output transistors. These are the large transistors mounted on the heatsink. When these go short, they usually take out some the adjoining resistors in that channel.

What would cause new fuse to blow when powering on (Sony STR-DN1030 Receiver).

Look in the circuit board area where the power cord mates with it for capacitors that have bulging tops (instead of the flat tops that are normal). If you see even one, you need to replace all the large capacitors othe power supply section (normally around 5 or 6).

No power output or display.green standby light flashes.

Sounds like either a blown mainpower fuse or the thermal fuse for the power transformer. If the protect circuit was kicking in, the display would light up, but then turn off with a red blinking light. the green light with no display means the transformer is not getting power.

do headphones work with or without speakers attached? does unit light up? Check fuses. If breaker pops, or replacement fuse blows, it needs repair.

If it's blowing the fuse, then there are probably shorted output transistors in the amp that need to be replaced.

I have a harman kardon avr 745....looks frozen

My device is AVR 645, but AVR 745 has the same power regulator board and you could check, if the problem is there.
(AVR 645 volume blue light was not pulsating)
When device is turned on, it shows all display indicators,
no blue light on volume button and no response to any remote or front panel buttons.
Reason for failure:
No 3.3V and 5VD voltages.
I checked bridge rectifier D701 on power regulator board.
One of the diodes was shorted. Also fuse F702 was blown.
Original D701 is KBU6G, but because regulator board is a bit difficult to get out, I decided to use KBU8G. The only difference is Amps rating 6A versus 8A.
Be sure to use SR-5-3.15A fuse to replace F702 and use heat sink paste (you know where) when board is reinstalled.
There is large heatsink in the middle of the receiver. Power regulator board is mounted on the right side of that heatsink. It is down there near the front panel and to get it out you most probably first have
to remove two PCBs hindering access to some regulator component screws. Here are pictures to clarify situation:

Sony str-de845 Powers up, relay clicks, fuses BLOW!

This condition, may be produced by defective components (Q506, Q507). you can remove those transistor, replace the fuses, power-on and wait for relays click. if the fuses not blown again, them replace both transistor.
