Retrieving stored information on Brother WP 3550 disk from another source

I have not found a service (repair) manual for a Brother WP-3550 word processor. That is the publication where I suspect one would find directions on how to open the unit and replace the disk drive.

Therefore, if you have not already done so, I suggest you contact Brother Business Machines Customer Support directly and ask about the availability of a service manual for the WP-3550. The company probably has at least one copy of the manual in its archives. If such a manual is available, there may be a charge for a copy.

The floppy might be defective. It is asking you if you want to format the disk because it can't read it. Make sure that you keep anything magnetic away from the disk. It will corrupt the data.

Sounds like the disk drive has died. Brother does not have parts for this model anymore. You may have to find some one to convert your disks to another format.

Your disks should work on another wp 3550 you may be able to find one on ebay.

As far as I know, there is no freely available software that can do the job.
However, there are a few converters that cost some money, which might be worth considering if you have several disks to convert.
If this is a one-time thing, just for this book, I would suggest contacting PIVAR, a company that specializes in converting files from old equipment.

Hit the TW/WP key on the top row of the keyboard. TW/WP stands for typewriter/wordprocessor. This toggles between using the word processor manually (like a typewriter) and using the monitor to enter text and then automatically print it out (like a word processor on a computer). My guess is, you do not have the monitor that came with the word processor. I believe it will still work once you press the TW/WP button. Hope this helps.
