Wont play some newer rented DVD movies

My girlfriends DVD player simply will not play some new DVD movies we rent at Block Buster. We recently rented a new release and the screen remained blue - DVD movie would not play - went back to another BLockbuster and rented the same movie, but his time I had them put it in there player to verify that the DVD movie was ok. It played with not problem. Got back home, and same intitial blue screen - did not play. Needless to say, we grabbed a DVD movie she owned, at they all played with no problems. What gives? Is there some new format that is being used that this DVD player cannot read? The movie was a Sony manufactured movie. Any suggestions/information? Do we need to get a new DVD player? The player is only about two years old.

Yours is a DVD player and you play a Blu-ray disc. DVD player would not be able to play Blu-ray. You can get some Blu-ray player programs so that you could play Blu-ray discs on your laptop or PC.

The dvd player will play a movie for about 10 minutes then it gets freezes and does not play anymore. It's brand new. had it about 2 months.

I found out this tv/dvd will not play certain movies that are rented from netflix is that their dvd have a restricted thing, and this tv will not read the movies that are on certain disks. It plays movies good that I rented here in town. So theres nothing really wrong with the player itself. I did some reading and this is what I assummed.

I have played mainly blue ray on my ps3 now that i have a new game rented from block buster it says the game is encrypted

Go to blockbuster and tell them they rented you an encrypted copy which indicates it's fake. explain EVERYTHING you did to avoid a charge/fine. the last person to rent it probably screwed it up somehow.

August 2005, I purchased this powermac g5. There has been a steady deterioration in the DVD player. Presently, no rented DVDs play. SONY DVD RW DW-Q28A: Firmware Revision: KAS7 Interconnect: ATAPI Burn...

OK. The movie industry strikes again! Your RENTED DVDs are the key.Hollywood made some adjustments to prevent the copying of the movies. So they put software to detect the kind of drives in which the movies are inserted. DVD/RW are capable of copying a movie, so they are disqualified as playing devices. Have it be a normal DVD player you won't be facing any troubles.

Dvd movies intermitently slows to near stop playing irratically

Have you examined the DVD's to see if they are abused and/or damaged by those who rented them? If there is no damage (unlikely for rental DVD's) what does the 'problem' look like?

Rented videos are freezing temporarily during playback

If the rented DVD is too scratched it will cause the DVD player to pause while it tries and find the next available playable area on the disc. This may cause the player to skip to another part of the movie. Try wiping the disc with a damp cloth from the centre towards the outer rim and dry the same way. Fingerprints ect. also cause problems. If the scratches are circular the player will have a hard time trying to play the disc. If the scratches are straight and small it shouldn't cause too much problems.

New DVDs won't play

What studio label? Some Newline DVDs appear to have some new protection, newer than the Sony ArcOS protection (or whatever it is called).
