Everything works except no sound from front speakers

I did not use the receiver for couple of years. Now that I connected it, everything works fine except there is no sound from front speakers, can not increase the "level" which is showing "-----" for the front speakers but it is showing 80 for center and rear speakers. I have tested the speakers and both are speakers are working. The manual says front level control will not show while in 5 ch discrt or dolby pro logic. I tried with these as well. Since last two days I have exhaustively tried almost everything I could think of and I know the I am doing something very silly mistake somewhere. Can anyone kindly help me PLEASE. Regards, Dipankar

SOURCE: Problem with Dolby Digital mode

Hi Whitesox, thanks for the suggestions! I finally got to the bottom of the problem, and it turned out to be the new Toshiba DVD player I recently purchased (model SD5000). I never had to make any adjustments to a DVD player before to make it play dolby digital signals, but this new Toshiba essentially comes with Dolby Digital diabled as its default setting. You have to go into its setup menu and switch it's digital audio mode from PCM to Bitstream. What's strange is that even with the default settings on the Toshiba it would play in DTS mode correctly.

SOURCE: RX-V596 center and rear channels do not have any sound

Nevermind... My center channel output was set to "NONE" I've had this receiver for a few years now, probably set it that way back when I got it. Oh well, Helps to re-read the user manual...

The info is in the "SET MENU" section of the manual, Pages 35-38. Should solve the issue for "almccrum" above as well.

If you don't have your manual it can be downloaded here:

SOURCE: Display shows only L and R speakers.

I think you need a digital coaxial wire instead of the composite ones

SOURCE: Speaker output

Yes, there are relay type switches associated with those outputs. Your RX-V1 is not dying.
Just plug a pin plug in and out of the dead channel to bump the switch. You will hear the speaker
come on. If it doesn't come on,do the plug jack in an out of the pre out again. It will come on.
You can use the test tone to check all channels and rebalance volume levels. You are making the
pre out connect to its power amp. It seems the problem got better when activating those switches. Most likely a cleaning issue. You can also jump the mains and center, and there is also
a modification to jump all channels. I bought my RX-V1 very cheap because of this and love it.
Of course outboard power amp would solve all, but getting this reciever to connect to it's own
power amp has been thrilling as far as bang for the buck. I do use the front effects also, and like
them. It may seem like a pain, but it is worth it to get those channels going.

SOURCE: Sony STR-DH510 Multi-channel AV receiver

The STR directs sound to the center as instructed by its speaker setup. You say the center does not work on calibration. Is it defined?

Prove another speaker does or does not work on the center output. Then we'll know if it's the receiver or the speaker ensemble that has the problem.

Have you checked the manual for this "
There is no sound, or only a very low-level sound is heard from the center/ surround. "?

I installed radio everything works except no sound from aftermarket speakers. Radio was hooked up in another car everything worked fine!

Double check your speaker connections. Make sure + goes to plus and - to minus (phase) and make sure all are grounded properly. Is there an amp possibly in line? If so, make sure connections are good there also make sure powered up (it happens to all of us)

I have a Harman/Kardon AVR 325. Left speaker not working with TV

How is TV audio (from the cable box) getting into the Receiver? If digitally, you wouldn't be missing any one channel on a connection malfunction, you'd lose them all. If analog, swap the channels around to isolate the problem (and reconsider using digital).

1 front speaker and 1 surround speaker won't work on cable selection

theres probably a problem with the right channel cable or plug that connects the tv to the reciever, or the tv is set to mono audio.
