SOURCE: No LCD connectivity

Hello, I am using a Viewsonic lcd projector with my new Acer Aspire One. I did not have connectivity off the bat. Here's what I did: 1. Downloaded driver (unsigned, not the signed version worked - ie not os-specific) for the lcd projector to the Acer. Restart Acer. 2. With lcd projector connected to Acer, toggle function key & F5. But then, continue holding down the function key. A screen pops up with icons for laptop, laptop/monitor, dual monitor, and lcd projector. You continue to hold down the function key and then press the F5 key to move to the desired device. I had to repeat the same process to restore my Acer screen to the original proportion when not using lcd projector. I'm not sure if both steps 1 and 2 are necessary, but I did it simultaneously, so I'm not sure of the origin of success.

SOURCE: Acer Aspire 5738g hangs

Hi.

I too have also bought the aspire 5738.
Mine was also hanging, eventually i sent it back to acer.
The mother board was replaced as it had a faulty north bridge on it.
If your unit is still in warranty get it done as soon as possible.

Try hooking the laptop up to an external monitor, use a vga cable. If the main display has died, the laptop may default a secondary if given the chance. If the laptop sounds like it boots but you can't see a screen on the external display try holding down the Fn key and at the same time tap the F5 key, this will toggle the display from internal to external. If a screen still cannot be seen then you may have lost the video processor on the motherboard.

You will need to purchase a valid product key from Microsoft or other re-sellers. Alternatively, you can switch to Apache OpenOffice which is free to use and will give you similar features.

I need the product key to install microsoft officeon aspire netbook D257-1679

I would advise you to buy and install only a genuine licensed version of Microsoft Office or you will almost certainly have authorization problems, which defeat the object of installing the software.

You can buy a genuine licensed version of Microsoft Office 2007 Professional Plus Edition starting from about $85 or Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus Edition for about $78 (plus shipping and packing) from (and similar websites):

http://www.software4students.co.uk/Microsoft_Office_2010_Professional_Plus-details.aspx

There are some websites online which claim that you can download Microsoft Office from them but as far as i know there is nowehere on the internet where you can download a genuine copy of any Microsoft Office software except the official Microsoft website.

The only Microsoft Office product you can download is the trial version of whatever latest version of Microsoft Office that is available. Currently you can only download Microsoft Office 2010 trial. Trial versions of Microsoft Office are free to download but can only be used for the limited trial period. After the trial period ends you have to upgrade to the full version and pay Microsoft for an online activation code which unlocks the trial version's time limitation and allows you to use it indefinitely.

If you need this type of software but do not want to or cannot afford to pay the price of Microsoft Office, then you can use completely free Office software like Open Office, which is very similar to Microsoft Office and can even be used to open most Microsoft Office documents. You don't have to pay anything at all to download OpenOffice.

The website for Microsoft Office trial and activation code downloads is: www.microsoft.com

The website for OpenOffice is: www.openoffice.org

I just bought a new desktop that has office starter on it. I have office 2007 that i want to load but it is an "update" version. Will this recognize office starter as a registered microsoft...

Microsoft Office Starter is a new product launched by Microsoft that comes only in a version that is pre-installed on certain computers. There are no genuine licensed CD, DVD or download versions of this product. It should therefore actually be Microsoft Office Starter 2010 that you have pre-installed on your computer.

So the simple answer to your question is no. An Office 2007 Update will have no effect on an Office 2010 application. Also, an Office 2007 Upgrade application will probably not install anything at all on your computer unless of course you have genuine licensed versions of Office 2000 or Office 2003 already installed on it that are capable of being upgraded.

Microsoft Office Starter 2010 has a perpetual license (never expires), so it is not immediately obvious why you would feel the need to upgrade it, unless there is a particular Microsoft Office function that you need which is not included in Starter.

Office Starter replaces the various Trial versions of Office that used to come pre-installed on some computers. Office Starter is a reduced functionality version of Office including basic versions of Word and Excel. Neither PowerPoint nor Outlook are available in the Starter format. Word and Excel Starter can be used as they are for an indefinite period of time or can be unlocked to the functionality of various full versions of Office by buying and downloading an activation code from Microsoft. Starter can be used to open any Microsoft Word or Excel documents or spreadsheets and can also be used to perform basic editing of such documents and spreadsheets (a number of sophisticated tools and functions do not feature in Starter and are available only in the full versions of Microsoft Office).

If you do not want or cannot afford to upgrade Starter to a full-function version of Microsoft Office 2010, then a free full-function Office suite application called Open Office is available that is of similar quality to Microsoft Office and can also be used to open edit and manage Microsoft Office documents spreadsheets and databases. Open Office is available to download install and use totally free of charge (like other Open Source applications) from:

Just bought a new laptop and office starter2010 keeps on looking for key code ,it was a pre installed pack

Microsoft Office Starter 2010 is a new, reduced functionality, advertising-supported version of Microsoft Office that replaces Microsoft Works on new computers and acts as a low-cost introduction to the Office 2010 suite of software. The Office Starter 2010 software includes Excel Starter 2010 and Word Starter 2010, which are special versions of Excel and Word with reduced feature sets. Although the feature sets are limited, they have the same look and feel as the Word and Excel in the full Office versions.

How do I use the CD that came with my ACER aspire to download microsoft word when the laptop doesnt come with a CD player?

Find a friend with a computer that does have a CD-ROM, and a USB port. Purchase a USB memory-stick that has at least 1GB of memory.
Get your friend to copy all the files from the CD-ROM to the memory-stick, including any "hidden" files.

Then, put the USB memory-stick into your computer, and install the software.
