I have the Pioneer AVH-P4000 DVD player and had it just installed. Music CD's play the radio works however when playing a DVD I get only sound and no picture. I also have two rear head rests and have this connected to this deck via rear AUX...How can I get this working with the deck and also how can I get the video pic on my deck?
Just wanted to add my 2 cents for those who might be having the issue of no video but hear audio. I was having the same problem. I had completed the bypass hack with a single throw/single pole (SPST) toggle switch. I could bypass the warning message and hit the OK button but no video. I did hear audio. I searched everywhere but solution 4 worked for me. The thing for me was that next to the black wire on the harness wasn't empty. It had a purple/white wire with some sort of filter (labeled backup camera hook to reverse gear). I tied into this wire before the filter with another wire (I chose a black wire b/c I was grounding it) and grounded it with the black wire (ground) on the harness. I now have video! Maybe the 4 pole relay hack would have worked better but I had only done the toggle switch hack. I hope this helps others and most importantly thank you Salhi.
To all who do the bypass on the AVH-P4000DVD and whenever they turn it on and put a dvd and bypass the screen and hear audio but no video I got the solution for it, Here is what to do:
Unplug you harness and next to the black wire in the harness should be empty. All you have to do it hook up an extra wire in the empty spot (again right next to the black on harness) and then connect this new wire to the ground of the car harness. So basically take the ground from the harness along with the ground from the car along with the new wire you installed along with the switch ground and pingo it shuold work. I just did this and it worked.
Enjoy it.
This suggestion was spot on. My AVH-P4000DVD had a different pioneer harness on it, so the wiring is not in the correct spots. The blue wire, which would normally be the remote turn-on/antenna was in that spot, which of course did not function as such, and a lavender wire was in the spot where the remote lead belonged. After sorting those out, and wiring as suggested, it worked perfectly. Thanks.

You need to either a) attach the green wire to your parking break, or b) put the green wire on a switch and attach it to a ground (bypass, and is illegal in most states). The unit is designed not to allow video playback unless the parking break is engaged to prevent people from watching video while driving.
No what u are talking about for this model avh 4000 dvd if done incorrectly causes a blue screen no playback. what we are experiencing is a black screen with only audio no video playback for dvds and other video sources. I have thparking brake setup withhout bypass just normal setup and still jave black screen issue. Im anout to try this other answer above this conversation andnsee if groundimg the purplr wire works

I bought the Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD Stereo Double din reciever. The ground wire needs to be grounded to the frame. aand the green brake wire needs to be installed on the hand brake/emergency brake.
Turn the ignition to on posistion.
Turn on the stereo and put in a dvd that you know plays.
The stereo will switch automatically to DVD.
Check and make sure the AV INPUT is set to S DVD.
SELECT AV MENU ( LOWER LEFT CORNER)
SELECT SYSTEM
ON THE AV INPUT SET TO S DVD
ON THE CAMERA POLARITY SET TO OFF
ON THE BACKGROUND SET TO OFF
While in this menu also make sure the background is off. Make sure the BACKUP CAMERA IS OFF.
ON THE BACK OF THE STEREO IN THE UPPER RIGHT HAND CORNER THERE ARE AUDIO AND VIDEO INPUTS AND OUTPUTS, ONE EACH OF RED AND WHITE, TWO YELLOWS (ONE IS INPUT, ONE IS OUTPUT) USEING A SHORT REGULAR RCA JACK CABLE, PLUG INTO THE YELLOW AND RED AND WHITE OUT PUT. THEN PLUG THE OTHER END INTO A PORTABLE DVD PLAYER,
****SOME PORTABLES COME WITH A SPECIAL RCA CABLE -ONE 1/8 INCH JACK FOR THE PORTABLE-AND A RED AND WHITE RCA ENDS. IN THIS CASE THE RED RCA PLUG GOES INTO THE RED RCA PLUG ON THE BACK OF THE STEREO AND THE WHITE GOES INTO THE YELLOW OUTPUT FOR RCA.
THIS WORKS, BUT YOU STILL HAVE TO SET THE BRAKE.RELEASE THE BRAKE, SET IT AGAIN, HIT OK ON THE SCREEN.
TO WATCH WHILE DRIVING, BARELY TAP THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AFTER THE CAR IS STARTED AND RUNNING. BARELY, THE SWITCH IS VERY SENSITIVE AND THINKS IT IS ON.
CHECK THE DASH AND IT SHOWS THE BRAKE AS ENGAGED, BUT YOUR BRAKE LIGHTS
SHOULD NOT BE ON. YOU CAN PAUSE IT BEFORE YOU TURN IT OFF AND IT WILL PICK UP WHERE YOU LEFT OFF. COOL.
EASY FIX.... I AM WORKING ON A WAY TO JUMP ACROSS WITHOUT THE PORTABLE DVD PLAYER. IF YOUR SCREEN KEEPS GOING BLACK....THERE IS A DISPLY BUTTON UNDER THE VOLUME KNOB, HIT IT ONCE OR TWICE. IT SHOULD STAY ON, IT HAS 3 MODES- DISPLAY ON- DISPLAY TIMES OUT-DISPLAY OFF.
FOR THE IMAGES APPEAR REVERSED, RESET BUTTON ON THE TOP FRONT LEFT IT IS RECESSED NEED AN INK PEN. WITH IGNITION ON HOLD IT DOWN FOR 15 TO 30 SECONDS RELEASE, DO NOT PUSH HARD. THEN TURN ON THE STEREO AND CHECK, IF NOT WORKING THEN DO A HARD RESET BY PULLING OUT THE STEREO AND UNPLUGING THE STEREO. LEAVE IT UNPLUGGED AT LEAST 2 MINUTES. THIS WILL PUT IT BACK INTO DEMO AND YOU WILL HAVE TO START OVER AT THE TOP OF THESE INSTRUCTION AND FIX YOUR SETTINGS TO GET IT PLAY.
AS I DISCOVER MORE I WILL POST IT. HOPE IT HELPS.
THIS IS A GEM OF ELECTRONICS..... I HAVE HAD TO STUDY IT A BIT TO GET TI TO WORK.
TOOK ME A MONTH OF SCREWING WITH IT TO MAKE IT WORK.
GOOD LUCK! IT IS WORTH THE EFFORT. KAREN B.
Ok. I will go through attatching the parking brake wire and/or bypass.
The long green wire is for the parking brake.
Make sure the ground wire(black) is attatched to the frame securely. Must be grounded.
***Look under the dash at the drivers side. find the switch that is connected to your parking brake. Should be a very small rectangular box with a swith on top, that engages when brake is engaged. Has one wire going to it. Swith is screwed or connected to the frame. Some cars will vary. Yours may be a hand brake in the middle.
If possible pull the wire from the emergency brake switch and wrap the striped end of the "green brake wire for the stereo" to it.
then re-attatch to the switch on the parking brake.
OR
Buy a toggle switch ( available at Auto Zone for couple dollars). One with at least two lead connections on it, easier if it is clearly marked power and ground on the switch.
Take an extra wire (may need to buy some, black since this is ground) attatch it to the ground on the toggle switch. Then run this wire to the frame or another grounded wire and connect to the frame or ground.
The "green brake wire" on the stereo harness needs to be ran to the other connector on the toggle switch (marked acc or power on the toggle)
Turn on the stereo and test. Put a DVD in.
Wait for the nag screen to load on the stereo. Flip the switch. Wait a few seconds. Flip the switch again. the next screen should load explaining to engage and disengage the brake. You have already done this.Hit ok in bottom right corner. The dvd should play. If you are only getting sound, refer to the fix I posted on July 19, 2009 as FIX 1.

I have just installed a Pioneer AVH-210 EX and I had the same problem. However, it was simply because my parking brake wasn’t grounding. It was a simple fix of giving the brake wire room to move and attaching it together. What I did was cut the brake wire, added parking brake wire to watch the video, then put them together using a wire attachment thing, made sure that the parking brake was grounded, and enjoyed my new stereo.
Here is some instructions on how to correctly wire your pioneer AVH-P4000DVD the normal way and parking brake bypassed.
Normal Way First!
1. Unplug the harness from the back of the head unit.
2. Notice how next to the black ground wire there's an empty spot on the stereo harness
3. Plug in any wire into the empty spot and ground it to the stereo ground wire.
Bypassed way. Same as above but instead of grounding to stereo ground, ground it to the toggle switch on position, "ground". The GREEN remote should be connected to the off postion on the toggle switch.
Now this is ONLY in the case that you have done the bypass or at least grounded the handbrake cable properly to get past the warning screen and nothing works.
I took mine to a technician that went through the settings, found nothing wrong, except for the fact that it won't play video. What he did afterward was open the unit up and checked out inside. Apparently there was just some little plug that got loose and/or fell off inside. This probably happened during shipping or could have happened if someone dropped the unit I guess. Anyway he re-plugged the little plug inside and it worked fine. I'm still to pick it up and test it myself but this is what I was told today so just thought I'd share it with you guys. Maybe that's what you guys need to get done.
Please note that if your unit is under warranty (like mine WAS) this would pretty much void it.
Be sure to attach the 2 black wires and the green one (break) to the chassis ground.

I have the exact same problem with mine, cant figure out what it is..
just a blank screen with sound,i have searched high and low on th net 2 find a solution but have not yet found one.
I have this same problem... It's not a bypass issue, the unit is just
showing no video whatsoever even after bypass. No video from any source
whatsoever, I even tried a rear view camera and nothing...
