Underneath the keyboard, pull the top plastic line cover (the one covering the power button) then two screws and pull it off carefully, the ribbon connection will pull out pretty easy but be carefull not to twist it.

Dell inspiron 3800 notebook CMOS battery where is it located

Hi bonnell

You don't say what your reason is for wanting to access the CMOS Battery. If you add a comment or a clarification request to this question, stating your objective, then maybe you can get alternative advice on a how to solve the problem you're having with this netbook.

The CMOS Battery in most laptops, notebooks and netbooks cannot be accessed without dismantling the entire machine and exposing the underside of the motherboard.

So no damage is done during disassembly and the correct component positions and cable connections are restored during reassembly, this is a job best done by an experienced repair technician.

See below for the location of a CMOS Battery in this notebook. The CMOS battery is the rounded, blue object in the centre of the image near the front.

I hope this helps.

Resetting BIOS password

If you have loast the password, to reset the BIOS password you need to remove temporarily the CMOS battery , so to reset BIOS settings.

Some model may be using NV Ram, in that case removing the battery is not enough.

The battery is located on the lower side on the motherboard.

On many DELL models the battery can be accessed from the side of DVD slot, battery slot, or RAM slot, without disassemblying the laptop.

On some model you may need complete disassembly (eg. Dell Le series).

The battery usually looks like a couple of coin batteries wrapped in plastic and connected to motherboard by a two wires connector.

Before disassemblying or removing covers, always unplug adapter and remove battery.

Several Dell Laptop can be set to use NV Ram to store the password.
In this case the problem cannot be solved removing primary battery, then accessing and removing CMOS battery for few minutes.

If you still cannot reset you have two way out.

Disassemble completely and access the NVRAM microswitch, or contact Dell and get master password.

You can also try one of this standard Dell factory CMOS password:

Where is the location of cmos battery on dell 2650.

pulling the battery will not help it is hard coded in CMOS you need to send it in or take it to a service center that can re flash it for you i do not suggest you re flash BIOS on your own because that could cause a bigger problem

DELL 1000 INSPIRON CMOS BATTERY

Should be one of two places on the Dells. Look under the memory cover, if not under the keyboard. If you still can't find it, go to Dell's support site and pull a system diagram. If you haven't already, it's very helpful to know what the bat looks like. Dell uses a few different types.
