this are the CPU -s that you're mb can support (core 2 duo)the numbers after "All" are the bios version's you need for the cpu: Core 2 Duo E4300 (1.8GHz,800FSB,L2:2MB,65W,rev.L2) ALL 1201 Core 2 Duo E4400 (2.0GHz,800FSB,L2:2MB,65W,rev.L2) ALL 1202 Core 2 Duo E4500 (2.2GHz,800FSB,L2:2MB,65W,rev.M0) ALL 1406 Core 2 Duo E4600 (2.4GHz,800FSB,L2:2MB,65W,rev.M0) ALL 1406 Core 2 Duo E4700 (2.6GHz,800FSB,L2:2MB,revG0) ALL 1501 Core 2 Duo E6300 (1.86GHz,1066FSB,L2:2MB,rev.B2) ALL 0604 Core 2 Duo E6300 (1.86GHz,1066FSB,L2:2MB,rev.L2) ALL 1201 Core 2 Duo E6320 (1.86GHz,1066FSB,B2:4MB,rev.B2) ALL 1402 Core 2 Duo E6400 (2.13GHz,1066FSB,L2:2MB,rev.B2) ALL 0604 Core 2 Duo E6400 (2.13GHz,1066FSB,L2:2MB,rev.L2) ALL 1201 Core 2 Duo E6420 (2.13GHz,1066FSB,L2:4MB,rev.B2) ALL 1402 Core 2 Duo E6600 (2.40GHz,1066FSB,L2:4MB,rev.B2) ALL 0604 Core 2 Duo E6700 (2.66GHz,1066FSB,L2:4MB,rev.B2) ALL 0604 Core 2 Extreme X6800(2.93GHz,1066FSB,L2:4MB,revB2) ALL 0604 and for the graphic card ...no because you motherboard has the "AGP" interface and the nvidia 8600 has "PCI - express" interface as is described here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_8600_8500_tech_specs.html

Make sure all Vista updates have been installed, and check the ASUS website for any bios updates. I believe that motherboard had a known issue with stand bye.

Cpu enquiry

There really is no difference, there are differences in the E numbers though. Those are specificallt about it's GHz's, it L1 and L2 cache.

Though Intel Core 2 Duo is the same as Intel Dual Core. It's just a different name. This confusion is caused because of Intel changing the names of it's processors series. The Pentium brandname for example is gone. Intel Pentium Dual Core is now called Intel Core 2 Duo.

I hope this answered your question.

Are they compatible?

Hi, your cpu currently in the machine should be a 754chipset, only way you would be able to put a core duo processor in the machine would be to replace the motherboard, cpu, and probably the memory.. to DDR2

Have a good new year
