SOURCE: Blank screen upon startup

Try taking out the hard disk, plug in power and see if you have a display on your screen or external monitor. if same thing happen, try taking out the memory card. If you hear a beep sound it's a faulty mem. card, if no beep sound appears I suspected it's a motherboard faulty.

SOURCE: my lenovo Y510 ideapad turns on but the screen

The next tim eit is turned on, try shiniing a bright flashlight directly on the screen.

If you can see anything there then the backlight has burned out on the screen, and will need to be replaced.

If you cant see anything, try hooking up an external monitor to the laptop, if you have a desktop the monitor for it will work for the test..

If the external monitor you hook up will work, then you will have to replace the screen..

( or at a minimum the inverter board, or check that the cables are tight that go to the screen)

if your sure the screen is not the problem then unfortunatly your looking at a motherboard issue and this proves sort of costly sometimes i know its a real pain but you can have someone repair it for you or simply buy another motherboard and have it installed im sorry but that is all you can do at this point! i hope this helps!

nnnnnn is 11 to 17 and up to 3 latters at the end.
4 years old max 2015 made.

answering for dead screen, no text, no lenovo logo icon on screen.
no prompts, and BIOS hot keys are dead. ok?

remove AC pack and all usb devices
push power button for 10 to 30 seconds and release
this is Forced cold power restart,
NOW is this a cure to the problem?> with power pack put back in? plugged end to end, AC wall to PC.
OK no is not:
remove AC power pack. unplug it)
next is the more hard, remove PC covers 10 screws. page 34
and unplug the battery connector.
as seen on page 36 of your service manual below.
then plug in the AC Power pack now.
does the PC run ok with no 4 year old battery inside?
end no battery test, what was the results now?

moving the battery inside any PC does not make it last longer, only harder to remove and service.
the price we pay for Light and thin.
"higher cost of ownership"

I have my laptop on, but the screen won't come on

Welcome to Fixya

Here are the things that you can try for troubleshooting a "No power" issue :
  • Remove all connections from the laptop (including all USB cords, ac adapter)
  • Carefully remove the battery and set it aside
  • Press and hold down on the power button for at least 10 seconds
  • Plug the AC adapter back (without the battery) and test the machine
  • If it works, then try to power it again with the battery this time
  • If this will not work, tery to plug in an external monitor just to test if you will be getting a display
  • If you got a display using external monitor, then the problem is the LCD itself

Thank you for using Fixya!

My lenovo ideapad y560's monitor won't open. the monitor is pitched black.

Hi thelzy,

I see that your Lenovo Y560 is having issues showing no Video, you mentioned that you only get a Black screen when booting.

I am assuming that there is still power on the machine but no video at all, Just to ask do you still see the Lenovo Splash screen? if not then we can try doing a power cycle on the machine.

* Remove the battery on the system unhook the Power Cord/AC adapter as well then press and hold down the power button of your Y560 Laptop for about 15 seconds then let go.

*After Doing the Power Cycle connect the AC Adapter again but leave the battery out for the time being then turn the compute ON, check to see if it will show the Lenovo Splash screen if it does then we're in progress and should show windows Loading up on the LCD screen.

*If it does not show the lenovo Splash screen then most probably the BIOS screen never showed as well on the issue.

*Connect the battery back n the machne turn it ON again check if it will show anything on the screen, if not then see below.

*We can try connecting an external mnitor to the system using a VGA connection it should show us the Screen on the external monitor if not then it means that Windows as well is not booting on your Laptop.

*Check the indicator Lights on the Laptop, one of the Lights will be a cylinder icon on the Laptop check if there is any activity from that light if there is no Light or any avtivity to any of the indicator lights then your Y560 is having issue with the Motherboard.

I hope this info Helps.

Have a nice day.

try removing the battery and removing the adaptor press and hold down the power button for 5-10 seconds then let got this will power drain your system board noy turn the system on using the battery only without any adaptors to charge or power the system, try turning the system on if the system turnes on leave it turned on for a couple of hours then conenct your sysem adaptor monitor if the battery light and the battery indicator on the lower right of the screen in windows woll indicate that the system is chargin if it is then I believe everything should be fine the blue indicator is for your system if it is blue then your system is turned on and has power if it turned orange and blnking then the battery will be more likely be almost out of juice or may need charging.
