In brackets I have the number of shots 529 however Nikon D50 SLR
In brackets I have the number of shots 529 however when I press the button to take the shot the code r09 shows and I am unable to use the sutomatic controls. Is it because of the setting for the JEPG??
Re: in brackets I have the number of shots 529 however ...
The r09 is merely telling you how many more shots you can take in a burst before the buffer fills up. It should not affect operation at all unless you take nine more pics in a burst.
Are you trying to change controls while pressing the shutter button? What controls?

Even if you turned off the 'auto review', the monitor should come on when you hit the photo preview button. You can find out whether the monitor is broken if you hit the menu key - no image on the monitor, then it is burned out.
Turn the aperture ring on the lens to its smallest setting (largest f/number) and lock it. You control the aperture from the camera body, the same was as with a lens without an aperture ring.
It indicates "bracketing". To turn it off, press and hold the bracket button (on the front of the camera, below the flash button and above the lens release button) and turn the main command dial (on the back) to change the number of shots to 0. Full details are in the "Exposure and Flash Bracketing" section of the manual (page 92 in my copy). If you need a manual, you can download one here. There's also a video tutorial here.
Most flash brackets screw into the tripod socket on the base of the camera. If your doesn't, please feel free to reply to this post, giving the make and model of your bracket.
Hi, I am not an expert. But I just had the same problem. Far as I can tell the D50 does not support SDHC, it was made before the SDHC technology came out. Pentax offers an upgrade to support it for their cameras, so perhaps Nikon will too, though I haven't found anything on it yet. My own solution was to pull my 2GB card out of my phone, put it in its adapter and stick it in my camera, works great. I put an older smaller card into my phone, now all my things are happy. This likely won't work for most people, but worked for me. If I see something about upgrading the camera I will put it on here.
Digital SLR cameras are different from other point and shoot cameras, in that you have to look through the view finder, you can not use the LCD Display to frame your shot.
NatD, The D50 and indeed most SLR digital cameras [ I have a D40 ] does not allow you to take pictures using the LCD display ... this is by design, you are meant to use the viewfinder and the image you see through it is straight through the lens via a mirror block [ called a reflex pentamirror or prism ]. When the mirror is down such that you can see the image in the viewfinder it is obscuring the sensor [ the bit that takes the picture ] and when you take a shot the mirror lifts and the picture is recorded. Its this reason that DSLR's dont use the LCD to shoot, however there are a few now available that do let you do this, such as olympus, new panasonic one and higher end Nikon and Canon cameras. Hope this explains it without getting too detailed!
