I have changed the colour ink on my canon mp460 but it still say empty

CL41, this is the one you are using for your cartridge.

Did you change your cartridge with brand new one or refilled one??

If you did with refilled one, the ink level won't go back with full.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the method how printer measures the ink level.

1. Each cartridge has a serial number.
2. As soon as installation in printer, printer recognizes the cartridge by serial #.
3. And the printer starts to count the printing document.
4. After reaching certain print counting, the ink level will show "low ink"

So my answer is even if you refilled your cartridge, the ink level won't change,
since printer cannot weight the cartridge or.....some other technology to measure each color ink level.

Thanks.

Every time I turn my Canon mp460 on, it comes up with this code U140 - The following in cartridge can not be reconized B. It is preventing me from printing.

Well.. seems like you are using PG40 or PG50..(black) CL41 or CL51 for your printer.

Pls unplug the power first....before taking out the cartridge.

And then, try to wipe out the cartridge socket part..gentely.

And try back.

If you used refilled cartridge for your printer.. especially "color one", you may have to change your cartridge with brand new..

That's what it happens to Canon printer and there is no other solution for it.

Replaced color cartridge but printing very faint

I would check your cartridge insert were the cartridge sits and make sure that its not dirty or something is interfering with the color cartridge.

My mp460 will not print in color. I have a mac. When first insalled it was fine. I only started having this problem after i ran out of color innk. Recently installed a new cartridge. Test page comes out...

You might have selected grayscale or it has been selected as by default when your printers color ink was finished. Kindly check the setup of printer carefully for any grayscale check box or black and white check box and de-select them.

How can i print in black and white only on my mp460 . my color cartridge is empty. i dont need to print in color

You can go into the printer properties and set the printer to print "Grayscale" only. That will override the data information coming from the PC.

However, if the ink levels are being checked at POST (Power On Self Test" time you may still be notified that the color ink is empty and not be allowed to print.

why not go to a WallMart or Office Depot and pick up the required Canon cartridge.

Do not even consider using third party ink cartridges or refilled ink cartridges. That stuff can and usually does wreak havoc on the printer and in some cases can be enough to cause the manufacturer to void the warranty on the printer.

Canon MP460- printer head slams end limits and alarms out

This could be indicative of serious ink issue. This could be as a result of a number of scenarios. But firstly, make sure you have replace he right cartridge.
i. Ink has developed incompatibility. Solution is try an older/another cartridge (doesn’t matter if ink is finished). If it stops blinking it confirms that your cartridge has become incompatible. Also if your printer is the type that can work with only one cartridge, remove one after the other to determine which in the set (black or color) has become incompatible. Just replace the incompatible one and start printing again.
ii. The electronic panel on the cartridge that contact with the cartridge carrier inside the printer is dirty and needs cleaning. Solution is try to clean with a piece of folded tissue paper soaked in a bit of methylated spirit. Also clean where the cartridge carrier where it makes contact.

Can't print in color on my Canon printer

If you go here you can download or view a manual for your printer, with detailed instructions on changing the print cartridge settings in windows or mac.
If you go here, you'll be taken to the home support page for your printer, where you can enter a search for "print in color", and detailed instructions will follow.
You go to control panel>printers>print preferences> and uncheck the grayscale printing and set the color to auto.
Issue: Image prints black and white instead of color....See below.
Solution: Uncheck Grayscale Printing checkbox (Windows)

Unchecking Grayscale Printing Follow the steps below to change the Grayscale Printing option:
  1. On the Windows desktop, click 'Start', point to 'Settings', then click 'Printers' (Windows XP: On the Start menu, click 'Printers and Faxes').

For Windows Vista: Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, 'Control Panel', 'Hardware and Sound', and then click on 'Printers'. Note: If you are in 'Classic' view, Click 'Printers' directly from the 'Control Panel'.
  2. Windows 2000/XP/Vista: Right-click the printer icon, then click 'Printing Preferences'. Windows 98/Me: Right-click the printer icon, then click 'Properties'.

  3. On the Main tab, click on the 'Grayscale Printing' check-box to remove the check-mark.

  4. Click the 'OK' button to save the setting.

How can I get the Canon MP460 to print in black and white only?

what you'll need to do is just refill the color cartridge.
you may not need to use it, but refill it to prevent it from drying out and not being able to work. That is because for the printer to work both cartridges need to be in working order.
