My key is stuck in my Kwikset deadbolt door lock

I'm not sure what model it is, but my best guess is Kwikset ''660'' Deadbolt that can only be locked from one side. I opened the deadbolt with the key from the outside of my door, but now my key is stuck in the deadbolt. I have already taken the deadbolt off the door and the key has still not come out, so is there some way to get the key out?

From a pro-locksmith: Tim Carter is probably correct. Graphite or tephlon spray is best. WD-40 will work in a pinch. Stay away from heavy motor oils. Although it may solve your problem temporarily, it will gum up your lock and lead to other issues. Check out http://localinventor.com

Key will not come out in unlocked position

I presume you figured it out by now, but if the tailpiece is installed wrong in many deadbolts, the key won't come out in one position or the other. It's called a "timing" problem and the way to fix it is to take it off the door, turn the tailpiece a half circle and put it back on the door. Usually Kwikset locks are designed so you can't put it in the wrong way, but it can happen. (If it's not the timing problem, then the deadbolt unit is defective or broken. They are designed to fail in a way that keeps them locked, so this could be a sign that someone tried to break in, or that someone used the extended bolt as a way to stop the door from closing and it hit the door frame too hard.)

The best way to install a deadbolt lock without the instructions handy is to look at the "lazy" cam and see if there is a way to install it wrong and don't install it that way. Example: If there are 2 ways for the tailpiece to fit in the deadbolt unit when the deadbolt is retracted and only one way for the tailpiece to fit in when the deadbolt is extended, then install the lock with the deadbolt extended and you can't install it wrong.

Need a video how to program my keyless entry deadbolt lock

Which manufacturer made the keyless deadbolt lock? Make sure that the batteries are good in the unit.

I have an older Weiser Powerbolt deadbolt lock that is programmed by taking off the cover on the inside of the door. This model has handheld remotes and the keypad. Inside there are three yellow buttons. Two match the cover's lock and unlock buttons. Press and hold the third button (in the center of the set of buttons). Then enter program in the code within a few seconds and press the enter button to set the code. If the unit beeps again, the code is set. If the unit doesn't beep, retry from the press and hold the Program button step.

Another model of the Weiser Powerbolt lock has the Program button either on the top left or lower right hand side of the board (depending on the way the door opens) under the cover. Press the Program button once and then enter the 4-8 digit code. Press the Lock button to set the code. If you hear a long beep, the code was accepted; otherwise try to program your code again.

Kwikset Powerbolt locks are programmed the same way as the second Weiser Powerbolt described above.

Kwikset SmartCode locks have their Program button in the center of the bottom of the control board. Otherwise the programming is the same as that given above for the second version of Weiser Powerbolt locks.

MiLocks have three buttons in a horizontal line. The left-most button is the Set button. Press this then enter the code followed by the Unlock button. The code must be entered within 5 seconds of pressing set.

Baldwin Hardware's Boulder series of keyless entry deadbolts are programmed just like the Kwikset SmartCode units.

I don't know of any videos. Most manufacturers do have PDF files with the programming instructions.

I hope this helps. Please add more information about your deadbolt for extra assistance.

(I end up replacing the batteries often on the lock I have; it seems like they last 6 months or less.)

Do you know how to reprogram digital code?? kwikset 907 lock

1) Remove back cover (instructions usually are stuck on the inside of the back plate cover .. if not continue next ...
2) Make sure all batteries are fully secured.
3) Press the square Reprogram button
4) Press the keypads of your code. If you do not hear any sound when pressing the buttons, then it means your batteries are not fully secured.
5) After entering your code, press the middle keypad (lock) once.
6) To double check things are working right, then press the keypad buttons again and then when you see the deadbolt is unlocked, then press the middle keypad (lock) again to ensure the deadbolt comes out to lock.

Recommend periodic lubrication of the deadbolt lock for less strain on the batteries ,,, and lubricate the key lock occasionally as well.

Exterior key for deadbolt just turns around and around.

It sounds like the exterior tumbler is bad, it is less expensive to just replace the whole deadbolt than to have the tumbler repaired.

Need to disassemble deadbolt with concealed screws

If it's like my deadbolt, pull the inside faceplate off. It's just pressed in place and the screws are behind it.

Lost entry door key, need to rekey kwikset deadbolt

Unfortunatley you need to have the key to remove the cylinder. You can take it to a locksmith that can pick" it to remove the cylinder and make you a key but it may be more cost effective to replace it.

Sorry not to be mre help.

Loose Kwikset Chelsea Deadbolt

I just had the same problem as samrpetrich with a loose kwikset deadbolt. Here's how I fixed it - on the inside of the door, take off the latch that flips the deadbolt in and out using a very small allen key. There is a round plate cover that is snapped on top of the inside deadbolt mechanism. If you look on the bottom aspect of this round plate you'll see where it snaps on; once I saw where to apply pressure it came off easily - taking off this plate exposed the two screws beneath that were loose. Once I tightened these, I snapped the plate cover back on, but the dead bolt latch back and everything is tight again. Hope this helps.
