My sons gator only has one wheel that spins when it is in 2nd gear and nothing spins in reverse or first. I checked power to the rearwheel motors and there is power going to the motors. I even switched wires and that didn't make a difference still only the same wheel spun. Do I just need to change motor, gearbox, shifting switch or all 3? Thanks for any help you can offer.
In the older Gator both rear wheels turn in 1st gear (low speed). 12 volts is supplied to both motors in series. (i.e the voltage goes thru one motor into the other and back to ground). If either motor is open or bad, neither will run. In 2nd gear (high speed) the full 12 volts is supplied to the passenger side motor only. This may make it seem like the other motor is bad and really is not. A simple test would be to move the black/white wire from the passenger side motor to the driver side motor and shift to 2nd gear. If the driver side motor spins fast..it's OK and there's a problem elsewhere.
Ohms Law says: The current (amps) is the same to all parts of a series circuit but the voltage is the sum of the drop across each load (the motors). This is to say the 12 volt battery voltage becomes 6 volts per motor. Running the motor at a slower speed. Once shifted into 2 nd gear the full 12 volts is placed on the one motor alone (right side/passenger side) making is spin faster. Hope this helps a little more with the original question/problem.
You have a bad motor, whichever side isn't turning you need to replace that motor
One of the wheels works and the right don't on my John Deere?
SOURCE: !st gear won't work
I would replace the shifter assembly. It seems to be a better upgrade with the switches built into the shifter itself. It also has the wiring with it.
As long as the battery seems to work and the motors are going in one of the speeds, then there is not much to the vehicle.
It is a specific Peg Perego Switch assembly.
Hope this helps

From your description the problem is a motor problem. You should turn the wheel manually and is it can rotate freely, if not then the motor is stuck and you can check the ball bearing if it is rusty or dirty or both and this can make it hard to rotate and that is why it become warm.
SOURCE: No 1st or Reverse, but will go in 2nd
I just bought one for kids for christmas. Out of the box the switch was already installed. Only worked in 2nd gear. I pulled switch and it only hooks up one direction. Under dump bed theres a cover that lifts up and 2 wires goin to each wheel. The wires to the right wheel were unhooked. As soon as i hooked them up 1st and reverse started working. Dont know if this is the case for yours but worth a try.
disconnect the wires from one of the motors and check to see if it works in all gears, then do this with the other motor, then swap the wires from the left side to the right and vice versa, if both wheels spin in all the gears then you need a new shifter switch
