How do I take the top off a Pfaff 7570

There is thread from the top spool caught inside the machine--I can see it wrapped around something, below the take up lever. The only way to get it out is to take off the top plate and physically get the thread out. So, how do I take off the plate? I've unscrewed the 3 screws I could fine, but it won't come off.

The top is also attached with some clips to the front and back of the machine. The handle also needs to be removed after you loosen up the top. It is held on with some C clips. The best way to remove thread is to separate the needle bar from the upper shaft. This may require some experience to get it back into adjustment. Good luck if you try this on your own.

SOURCE: threading a pfaff creative 7570

Always thread the machine with the presser foot up. This keeps the tension disks open while you are threading. Open the lid on top. Put thread on spool holder. Go directly to your left and down the path on the farthest left. Go all the way to the bottom and bring the thread up on the path closer to the spool. Hook the thread through the metal piece that moves up and down while sewing. It should be in the highest position when threading. Run the thread down and clip into the small metal holder above the needle. Pull down needle threader, draw thread across front of it from left to right and pull through needle.

SOURCE: threads caught in the take up lever wheel

looking at the top left side you should see a hole large enough for a screwdriver and through that hole there is a screw. Loosen the screw and the left side cover should come off.

SOURCE: thread or bobbin tension

Thread tension. Beware of adjusting the bobbin screw. Pfaffs maintain their tensions just fine without adjusting the bobbin tension, unless you're using some crazy thick or fine thread. If you must change your bobbin tension, you would be well-advised to buy an extra bobbin case, because re-calibrating your tensions after changing them can be less than fun.

Increase your top tension, and your looping should cease. I normally keep my tension around 4.5. Also make sure you're using a good quality thread, and that there's nothing in the upper tension assemblies. Sometimes a tiny piece of debris can keep the top tension from applying enough tension, so turning the machine off and blowing some canned air in there can help as well.

Good luck,

-R

SOURCE: How to rescrew in the part next to the bobbin winder w/ no thread

Note!!! When you removed the bobbin winder stop, the nut under the cover fell off and it is inside the machine. It is quite possible for this nut to land on a vital circuit board part and short out the expensive circuit board. Take it to be serviced and save yourself a lot of grief.

SOURCE: I cant set the tension on my PFAFF 7570 the thread keeps

First make sure your needle is in correctly. Then make sure you are threading the machine correctly especially make sure you thread the take-up lever. Make sure your tension dial is at a 4 to 5. if this does not work, let me know

My Pfaff hobby 1200 keeps breaking the thread while free motion quilting.

I'd try switching the needle type & size and then a different brand of thread.

Oh, yeh, one more thing I just thought of: Rethread the top thread and make sure the thread is not hanging up on the spool, spool pin, or wrapped around a thread guide. When my thread breaks after 3-4 inches, it's usually because something is stopping the top thread.

Pfaff 7570 - Had a problem with bunching threads, removed the knots and now the needle arm is jammed and won't go up and down. Any suggestions to remedy this problem?

It is quite possible that there are still some stray threads stuck or wrapped somewhere in the machine that are preventing the machine from operating properly. If unable to locate what is holding the machine, service may be required.

The top thread keeps breaking

Is the thread feeding freely from the spool? Sometimes thread can get caught on something on the thread spool which causes it to snap at the needle. I suggest unthreading, and running your finger around the rim of the spool to be sure there is nothing for the thread to catch on. Then be sure to use your spool pin disks to ensure the thread is feeding well.

Machine is noisy; top thread breaks, even though needle has been changed out (it seems the thread gets caught on something inside the top)

check to make sure the thread is not winding around the spool pin
also check & see if it's getting caught on the notch on the thread spool
the thread could be coming of the thread take up lever

So I just got myself a 7570 and so far am in love with it. I cannot find how I would have the thread stand up right as opposed to laying down. Surely this option is available as it was availble on my 26...

Beside the spool carrier in the top of the machine there is a hole to the right near the front, this is there to take an upright spool pin which should be in the tool box.

Tension has thread caught in it.

Hope this helps. In the order I would recommend:
  1. "Floss" the tension disks - this is nothing more than running a heavy thread (12 weight or upholstery) through the thread path, grasping the thread at the spool and the end that is through the needle and "flossing" just like you would your teeth - slide the thread back and forth through the disks/thread path. This will often-times pull through whatever is stuck!
  2. If the thread is more deeply tangled than "flossing" will fix, you CAN remove the top of the machine to better see it. I would, however, recommend you take the machine to a Pfaff-trained tech if this is the case - things that can be damaged if you're not trained on the machine. However, if you're wanting to give it a try (the thread may be easily visible and easy to get to):
    • Remove the stitch lid - there are little metal clips at the base of the lid that you can push outwards to remove the lid - can't get the top off without removing lid.
    • In the well of the machine top are a few screws (2 if I'm remembering correctly). The screws are star-shaped as opposed to Phillips or Flat - special screwdriver is required. Just make sure you don't remove the screw that's holding the bobbin-winding mechanism on.
    • Once the screws are loosened, you'll have to maneuver the top out of it's position - this requires a little wiggling but is not impossible (just impossible to describe how to wiggle it!!)
    • Turn machine OFF and UNPLUG it. Too many electrical connection points you will be working around to take a chance!
    • VERY CAREFULLY... turn the handwheel towards you (never turn backwards) until you are able to view the entire race/thread path. If you can EASILY remove the stuck thread, go ahead and do it. If you have to do too much pulling and tugging, be VERY careful - if the thread is wrapped around the check spring, you may bend/break it.
Again - hope this helps!

Happy sewing,
Kim
