There is no fuse in a laptop, the power supply shuts down if there is a fault by sensing the current being used.

you may have a faulty motherboard connection, but try connecting the power adapter in without the battery and see if it runs, then replace the battery back in the compartment.

Your power controll circuit on the main board is bad, you might need to change that or the entire board itself.. If you can get a technician just to repair the power controll circuit you should be fine. most ppl dont do that cause its difficult. Normally your entire main board is replaced. To fix that i will need to see the board but thats difficult since i am sure you dont live anywhere close to trinidad but i am sure someone close to you will be able to repair it, or your can download your service manual for your laptop and attempt to repair it your self.

SOURCE: Cooked motherboard, blown fuse, blown power pack.......

It's time to take the laptop to a qualified technician; if there is a fuse, then it is _not_ an "end-user" task to disassemble the laptop, to change the fuse. If it is _not_ a fuse, then the technician needs to do more trouble-shooting than what you, as a "user", currently know how to do.

My Dell Lattitude 610 will not power on when the power button is depressed. The battery has been switched with a battery that was fully charged, still no sign of life. What can I do?

Remove the battery and power on the laptop with the AC adapter and see if it powers up. If not then you probably need to have the motherboard replaced.

The initial battery of my Acer Travelmate 2480 packed up and I ordered and installed a new one. However, the laptop remains on "AC Only" power and the battery is not charged, giving a...

RTFM You can download the manual by googling "acer travelmate 2480 manual" (without the quotes). Or just click here

According to the Acer manual:

"Conditioning a new battery pack
Before you use a battery pack for the first time, there is a
"conditioning" process that you should follow:
1 Insert the new battery without turning the computer on.
2 Connect the AC adapter and fully charge the battery.
3 Disconnect the AC adapter.
4 Turn on the computer and operate using battery power.
5 Fully deplete the battery until the battery-low warning appears.
6 Reconnect the AC adapter and fully charge the battery again.

Follow these steps again until the battery has been charged and
discharged three times.
Use this conditioning process for all new batteries, or if a battery hasn't
been used for a long time. If the computer is to be stored for more
than two weeks, you are advised to remove the battery pack from the
unit.

Warning: Do not expose battery packs to temperatures below 0°C
(32°F) or above 60°C (140°F). Extreme temperatures may adversely
affect the battery pack.

By following the battery conditioning process you condition your
battery to accept the maximum possible charge. Failure to follow this
procedure will prevent you from obtaining the maximum battery
charge, and will also shorten the effective lifespan of the battery.
In addition, the useful lifespan of the battery is adversely affected by
the following usage patterns:
• Using the computer on constant AC power with the battery
inserted. If you want to use constant AC power, you are advised to
remove the battery pack after it is fully charged.
• Not discharging and recharging the battery to its extremes, as
described above.
• Frequent use; the more you use the battery, the faster it will reach
the end of its effective life. A standard computer battery has a life
span of about 500 charges."

My Compaq 8230 laptop will not power up, any thoughts? Is there a reset button somewhere? Thanks!

Hi there

Ensure the laptop is fully charged and also make sure that the battery is inserted properly

Also remove the battery and plug the laptop directly to power to see if it will com on,if it does then the battery needs to be changed.

If it doesnt then the problem is from the power pack, the power pack is probably burnt and should be changed for your system to power up again.

Won't turn on. Battery is plugged in and lit. n

Try removing your battery pack. Then connect the power adaptor (even without the battery) and connect is directly to the power outlet. If it powers up, then the battery pack might be defective or totally drained.

If the battery is just totally drained, simply place the battery to the laptop. Do not turn the laptop on. Plug the power adaptor to the laptop and plug it to the power source. If you see that the charging LED is blinking in your laptop, then just leave it charging up to 5 to 8 hours.

Never use a laptop on battery mode while it is plugged in to a power source. This is the number 1 reason why laptop batteries don't last longer.
