SOURCE: Air leaks arond trigger when depressed, but no nail fires.

Where does the air leak out from? If it leaks from the trigger DeWalt makes a trigger valve assembly part # 641006-00 list 8.89 BUT if it leaks from other areas we have to look into it deeper. If it is just the trigger valve let me know and I will give you instructions how to remove and install the new one.

SOURCE: Dewalt 51488. Air leaks around trigger and won't fire nail.

Go to Dewaltservicenet.com and download a breakdown of the tool before starting. I would recoment changing all the O rings and make sure that you get a good grease to lube them first. Its not that hard.

SOURCE: nail gun wont fire

First - the air pressure has to be high enough - check the regulator on the tank to make sure it is delivering in excess of 60-70 psi (which I am sure you have already done).

If you have dry fired these guns (i.e. shot them off with no nails in them while you were lubricating them maybe) the mechanism inside could be damaged. I had that happen to one of my nailers (same brand). That was when I learned not to dry fire them...

Since both of them are not working though I would be more inclined to look at the air supply first.

SOURCE: my dewalt framing nail gun was hooked to the air

There are O-ring seals around the trigger that are probably leaking. You can try to lubricate the gun by adding the pneumatic oil to the air supply. That may be enough to seal it back up. Otherwise the seals and/or the trigger assembly will need to be replaced.

I purchased a kit from professor foam on ebay and installed it. The nail gun is still shooting air out of the tip where the nails come out. Dewalt D5188 type 1

The seal # 390140-00 installed on the upper part of the cylinder will allow air to come out the nose of the gun as well as the bulkhead orings as you suspect. Here is what I do the check the fit of the clear or vinyl orings on the inner side of the bulkhead. Remove both of the orings from the cylinder that come into contact with the inner side of the bulkhead. INstall one oring on the cylinder first then slip bulkhead on to check for snug /firm fit. If the one oring feels loose add a couple turns of Teflon tape under the oring and repeat test until contact feels firm but not too tight. Then remove this oring and try the other oring for fit and do the same if it feels too loose. When the second oring feels good go ahead and install both orings and re-assemble. It should work. I do not like the vinyl orings that come in the kit, I usually order buna orings to fit from "orings and more" on the internet, they sell orings by size so you must order the size needed. If you do not know how to measure the orings for size, take the orings to a hydraulic store or a bearing shop and they will tell you what size they are. vinyl orings do not last like the buna . Good luck

Where is seal to prevent air from leaking out

You probably need to replace the o-rings on the piston. Not really all that difficult. Google DeWalt air tool rebuild kits and you should be able to find local dealers that carry them. Most will rebuild them for you for 40 or 50 bucks labor, or do it yourself. Take out the 4 allen screws on top of nail gun and pull out the piston. Clean out the cylinder and replace o-rings. lightly oil cylinder and reassemble. to make o-rings last longer don't forget to add a drop of oil each day before you use it. Sometimes you don't need to rebuild, just clean the pistin, o-rings and cylinder. I've done it many times with all brands of nail & staple guns. not that hard to do.

I own a DeWalt D51850. For nearly two years it

Dewalt uses some vinyl orings (clear to gold colored) and some buna orings (black) in the gun. The vinyl orings fail if you use the gun or not. Open the gun and replace all the gold /vinyl orings with buna. The oring kit contains some vinyl and some buna. If you have a source for orings replace all the vinyl with buna. I believe there are at least four vinyl inside the body of the gun and at least three vinyl inside the trigger valve. If you do not have source for orings, then replace the trigger valve and install an oring kit. The driver is most likely ok if it does not look bent. The bottom of the driver should be square. If tiny bits of the edge are broken off then most likely ok. Make sure that you are using the correct nails. Lay a strip if nails on the side of the rails with the nail heads aligned with the rails. The first nail should align with the path of the driver blade. If the first nail is not correctly aligned, then you will have miss-fire. Good luck

Hi air is leaking from the top of the gun thanks

If you have a very slow leak most likely the lower half of the headvalve (white plastic) is scratched. The gun will work ok but waste air. Parts are not expensive and are available from Dewalt service center. Remove head and pull out headvalve. Look for scratches where oring makes contact. If a lot of air is leaking, most likely cylinder seal needs replacing (vinyl ring installed on the headvalve) or has debris keeping it from making full contact with the cylinder. If you have lots of hours of use you may consider installing the rebuild kit. Good luck.

N5008AC LEAKING AIR THROUGH HEAD

How often do you add oil to the nail gun? Add a couple of drops of air tool oil where you hook on the air hose. Your seals are probably dry, allowing air to escape past the o-rings. If that doesn't work you'll have to get a rebuild kit from your dealer or order it on line and replace your o-rings.

Not feeding nails correctly

On the side of the nose there is a paw that's driven by a piston to feed the next nail into place. Check that the paw isn't damaged and moves freely. The piston has several o-rings that do wear out or break over time. If they are damaged you will need a rebuild kit for the gun if Dewalt still makes one for this gun. Go to http://servicenet.dewalt.com and look up your gun. There are two types for this model number so I don't know what parts to recommend. If a kit isn't available for the feed piston you should be able to order the o-rings seperately.

Looking for rebuild kits (parts) for my N16 nail guns. I have 3 of these older guns and would like to rebuild them.

Stanley Bostitch doesn't make kits to rebuild their nail guns, you have to order each o-ring, seal, etc. seperately. The N16 was a good gun however there are very few parts available for them. You can go to www.bostitch.com to see what's available through them. You can also get part numbers for what you need for your guns and research any available parts on the web.

Driver does not retract after striking a nail

if its new warranty it,
otherwise all it should need is a rebuild kit . its just a bunch of orings and gaskets. pretty easy to do. take some pictures as you take it apart to help with reassembly.
Dewalt should have scematics online or ereplacements.com
