Homelite Trimmer Pull Start Cord

The pull cord was pulled all the way out and jammed. I took the cover off and was trying to unjam the cord when the whole spring assembly came out. Now I cannot get the spring back into the housing. Can anyone help me with this? The trimmer model is UT20044B

Thank you,
Keith

Why was the cord jammed? When you took it apart, did you find out?
I would suspect that it is broken.

The part no. for the Spring and container is A98773A. You can Google the PN and find many sources. Expect to pay between $10.00 to $15.00. I like m-and-d.com If they have it in stock you will normally get it in 3 to 4 days.

How do you install the spring with the cord container? I am not sure how the spring "hooks" to the container. Seems like it should go through center but I can't get it to work.

Homelite trimmer ut 15151 How do I replace pull

Remove the tube that holds the flex-drive shaft from the front of the motor cover.Remove the rear engine cover. Remove the throttle cable from the carburetor. Mark and unplug any wires for the on/off switch that go to the ignition coil (underneath front cover) if possible. Now if you have pulled the driveshaft tube out of the way, the clutch drum is up next. Inside it, screwed into the very end of the engine's crankshaft is a Torx #25 screw. Before you loosen it, you will have to lock up the engine. To do so, remove the spark plug. Pull on the starter until the piston is down, then insert a length of clean, soft rope into the engine. The engine will come up and compress the rope, thus locking it in place to allow clutch drum and clutch removal. Loosen the T-25 screw inside the drum.. You may be able to remove it with a long thin-blade screwdriver also.It probably won't come completely out...it is made this way. Next, remove the clutch. It is screwed onto a small threaded section of the crankshaft Removal is counterclockwise.. It will be pretty tight. To help, apply peneterating oil. Whack the ears of the clutch near the center with a dull flat-blade chisel and hammer unless there are bolts. then use wrench. It will turn counterclockwise for removal and there will probably be a removal direction arrow on it's face. After getting that off, remove the Torx screws holding the cover to the engine. The starter unit should be mounted inside as it mates with the top of the flywheel to start the motor. Remember to preload tension (5-7 turns) on the starter unit. Make sure the handle is installed. Jam the unit with a screwdriver or vise grips so you can insert and tie off the new rope. Then remove jam device and let recoil pull your new rope into place while holding the handle. Reassemble and you are done. Disassembly requires Torx head drivers

Homelite weedeater pull cord wont retract once ive pulled on it to start

you will need to remove starter cover & boom assy ,
sounds like either the rewind spring is broken or the pulley has split at the base of pulley or the starter pawls are bent / jamming , check that the centre pivot if this unit uses this type is not binding , pulley should be free , check the pulley is not damaged ?
either way once cover is off you should be able to see the problem
check the lugs that secure the pulley to the cover if unit has 3 lugs that secure to the cover ?

replacement parts should be available reassemble and test

cheers hope it helps paul

Pull start

Good chances is that the cord either got pulled to far out or the spring let go inside the cover that controls the rewind. It's not a big job...just remember how you took it apart www.nnyparts.com

The Pull cord was jamming. I took it apart and

the rope and spring both have thier respective place in the housing for thier mountings they can be rewound by hand and reassembled with success, hint oppisite end of spring has a anchor point on the housing while one end is secured by a cup like screw mounting,to create the retracting force for retrival of the pull start rope its tricky if haven't done it before but you learn by trying Good luck Steve

Pull cord stays out, won't retract. I took apart

the end of the spring may be broking you can fix it by taking it out and heat it with a small fire until it is red hot and bend it

I cant start it due to the pull cord not coming out further than 5-6 inches??

Sounds like the cord may be wrapped outside of the recoil pulley and may be spinning the motor backwards. The cord can backlash especially if the trimmer kicked a bit during starting.
