Error When I take one shot, the image comes out white around the edges. If I take a second image right after the first, the picture is fine.

  • Anonymous Jun 27, 2013

I must set the camera on continuous and take a second picture immediately after the first. The first picture will have white edges on three sides, like a light leak. This makes the first shot unusable, but the second picture is perfect.

This is an odd problem if you're using a standard lens. I've been told that it's called photo chromatic aberration and it's a fairly common problem with inexpensive big (600-1200mm) telephoto lenses.

If it's happening with a good quality standard lens this suggests that there may be a problem with the autofocus not being quite set when you take the first shot then being fully adjusted by the time you take the second shot.

I'd suggest contacting Nikon support at www.nikon.com to see what they suggest. Be sure to provide them with information about what kind of lens you are using and what the light conditions are.

Remove purple haze around edges

The set needs to be focussed and reconverged. The red and blue images combined make a magenta/purple image. Adding green makes it white. Depending on the type of TV, if it's a CRT projection TV then there's an electronic focus control for each of the three tubes as well as the mechanical adjustment of the optical lenses. Given the description, then I'd have a look at the electronic focus first. A sudden shift in focus suggests that something in that circuit has given out. This would cause the red and blue images to go soft enough to create a halo around objects on screen.

I have had my camera for not even a year and it recently started having this problem. Whenever I take a picture, the object will look fine in the display, but when I take the picture it gets horizontal...

If I understand you correctly, you're saying that the LCD display shows a normal picture when you are composing your shot, but that when you actually snap the shutter to record the shot, the resulting image has nasty lines across it?

That would indicate that the lens is fine, but that the image sensor itself or associated electronics have gone bad. If this is out of warranty, then you're likely out of luck.

Picture has double images around the edges of the viewing area.

Firstly check for correct colour registration at centre of screen. Look for coloured halo around white edges in centre area of picture. Use static convergence adjustment if necessary to correct centre of screen. Then follows an involved process of interactive adjustments to attempt correction of errors at the screen extremities. If these are out of adjustment range this is indicitive of a convergence drive fault requiring professional intervention.
I hope this information is helpful!

Image reduced by dark edges

An adapter tube has to flare out at the end or it will cut the corners off at the wide angle setting. Telephoto should be ok though.
