Replacing the battery door on a Nikon CoolPix 4600

As to whether you can do it yourself, do you know which end of a screwdriver to hold? :-)

Nikon support made these suggestions:

1. insert the memory card that originally came with the camera (Nikon approved card).

If that doesn't help, then:

2. remove the camera batteries. Leave the batteries out for 24 hours. then replace them



If these suggestions don't resolve your problem, they say the camera must be sent to Nikon Service because there are no "user serviceable parts on the Nikon Coolpix cameras"

On the bottom of the camera you'll find a plastic tripod mount and the battery compartment. The door covering the battery compartment is fairly sturdy, and it has a locking mechanism. As you can see, the Coolpix 4600 and 5600 use two AA batteries.

1. Use the memory card that originally came with your camera (or a Nikon approved card).
2. Remove and replace the battery.

On the other hand, a Lens Error generally means that an error has occured during the lens operation. To troubleshoot, please try the following:

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove and replace the battery.
3. Turn on the camera.

Seems you may just have to remove and replace the battery - sort of like a Windows Restart to fix a computer problem! - this would reset your camera's memory.

I just purchased a new battery door for $15 with shipping from nikon. They sent a simple assembly diagram and I was able to replace the door in 30 minutes. I used a dremel to cut the old door off, but you dont have to do that. I got a little impatient.

Just buy the plastic piece and u can reuse the metal parts for your old battery door.
