Rescan stops on 18%, says still searching but it's taken ages

Assuming that we talking about digital channel could be couple reasons. First- too small antenna or in wrong location. Usually at evening, night hours there is less interference from cars, running electrical equipment etc reception is better. Far away stations reception is also better at night. Trees, houses etc also affect reception. If you in USA you can use site: antennaweb.org to determine correct antenna and direction to receive channels in your location.

The TV might have lost its channel settings and would need them be rescanned and stored. Hope this helps

How to sharpen digital TV reception via antenna

Ok This is what I found out and hopefully found your solution..
Have you heard of Double Rescan?
The Federal Communication Comission Designed a Process called double rescan.
Double Rescanning erases and thenreprograms the channels in the converter box an digital TVs memory.
To Double Rescan, you will first need to disconnect the antenna from the converter box or antenna.
Then disconnect the converter and or digital tv power supplies from the wall. Wait a minute before plugging them back in. The antenna should still be disconnected.
With the antenna disconnected run the channel scan function on the coverter box or digital tv. When the scan completes you will have completely removed any channel data the converter box or digital tv, had in its memory.
Now it's time to rescan for real.
Do this by reconnecting the antenna to the converter box or digital tv and running the channel scan function again.
Thus the double rescan is born.

our box is the other way round lol, just re-enter codes and rescan, if all else fails, delete all channels and then rescan

Power the TV off and uplug from the mains, now remove the aerial, now press the standby button the TV, now plug the mains back in and switch to a DTV channel, wait 5 secs and then put the aerial back in whilst still on that channel, now rescan.

If that didn't work, reset the TV to factory defaults and rescan again.

Auto program. rescan channels on your TV input. The TV has been scanned on the satellite it is set to pick up the channels that are avaliable on that system.

Unplug everythings,replug it.power off/on all devices for rescan or reboots.

Use ur original remote of the tv u want setup to the DTV box go menu switch cable back to air
reseption.Set tv channel 3 hook up the DTV box and rescan the channels u have it.

The first thing to do is to rescan for channels. If for some reason the channel memory got wiped out, there could be no other "available" channels to change to. The "flicker" you see is the TV changing to the same channel. Try the rescan and update this if that does not resolve the problem. Let's eliminate the simple stuff first. If the rescan DOES resolve the problem, please update this with that information as well and we will try to find out what cleared out the channel memory.
