Answering system and fax do not operate together

My answering system works fine alone but when I connect my fax through the phone it cuts off the outgoing message and gives fax sounds before the caller gets a chance to leave their message. How do I connect my Hp All in one printer/fax/scanner to the Uniden so both can operate properly?

I have my machine hooked up with my answering machine. How do I set up to have the answering machine pick up and then once the beeping of a fax starts, it will connect.

Unfortunately you can't do that with any stand-alone answering machines. You'd need to manually activate the Fax when you hear the fax tones. What you can do is use an item like this: http://faxswitch.com/stick.html or this: http://www.usr.com/en/products/telephony-usr4000/ to route the calls to the Fax or the answering machine for you. The other option is to use a TAPI Voice/Fax Modem with your computer that supports telephony operations. Then you can use the computer to answer the fax calls and telephony software to add an answering machine to the computer. (This is one example: http://www.ventafax.com/ .)

I wish that I had better news for you.

(Note: I have a USB Voice/Fax Modem that claimed it would handle telephony operation after a firmware upgrade to the unit. It never learned how to correctly interpret the necessary codes. This may be a driver issue but I never resolved the problem. So my fax modem is still on Manual answer.)

I can't figure out how to set up a voicemail or answering machine

The phone doesn't have an answering system built-in. If you use a voicemail service, you will need to check with the provider for the phone number and then follow their directions to set up your mailbox. If you are connecting a stand-alone answering machine, you will need to daisy chain the devices. Connect the phone cord from the wall jack to the answering machine IN port. Then use another phone cord from the answering machine OUT to the CL2909 TEL port. (If you are using a fax modem (or regular modem), with an anwering machine feature on your computer, then you still want to use this chain method. The data port may not let the computer answer a voice call.)

If you are using a free standing answering machine, after connecting everything together, make sure that you hear a dial tone and can properly make calls. If you do not get a dial tone, replace cables. (I recommend you check that the phone works by plugging it directly to the wall jack before doing a daisy chain of devices.) Turn on the answering machine and set the outgoing message and number of rings as per the directions for the answering machine.

If you have any problems, make sure that the line is good. I use an old rotary phone to check my service connection (at the box since that has RJ-11 connections in my home). You may want your phone company to check if the line is good to your home if the service doesn't have RJ-11 connections. If the problem is in the wiring, check the jacks (loose wire/broken wire) and exposed wiring (missing insulation/breaks). You may need a professional to check in the walls; your telephone service provider will fix this for a fee. If the problem is outside, then the provider will fix it free.

You can get the manual and guick start guide as PDF files from AT&T: http://telephones.att.com/att/index.cfm/product-detail/?ProductID=290 . The links are on the right hand side of the page.

I hope this helps.

My fax machine starts before a answer phone starts When somebody telephones me and I am unavailable instead of being able to leave a message on my answer phone the call er hears the fax connecting

I established that my telephone answering system started after 6 rings, by reducing this to only four rings the answering system operated prior to the fax tone kicked in - now it all works fine

I have a Uniden 5.8GHz DSS8955+1 and it's connected to my phone and fax. The problem is: everytime the fax rings, the answer machine works as it works when is a phone call. How do I set up the machine not...

Set your answering machine to pick up after four rings2.gif . This will give the fax machine enough time to take the call if it senses that it's an incoming fax. Setting the answering machine to pick up after four rings would give the fax machine enough time to accept the fax.
hope this was helpful .

IT WILL RING BUT GOES TO ANSWERING MACHINE DOES NOT RECEIVE FAX

>first run fax test, press set up go to tools menu then select run fax test, all entries should be pass
>then check your connections, do you have one line or number for your fax and phone?or a separate line or another number for fax and another number for phone?
>let me assume you only have one number for fax and phone..
>check connections, this should be downstream connection, the fax machine using the black phone cord provided by hp should be connected directly to the phone jack using line 1 at the back of the fax and the answering machine or the telephone should be connected to ext 2 or line 2 at the back of the fax...there should be no other devices phone or answering machine connected directly to the phone jack.
>next set rings to answer on the fax machine higher than the answering machine...if your rings to answer on answering machine is 4 rings, set the fax to 6 rings...if it is a voice call the answering machine will pick it up at 4 rings then if it detects that it it a fax tone then it will transfer the call to fax.
>also check if auto answer is on in your fax
>you can check auto answer and rings to answer by pressing set up or menu button on your machine look for it in basic fax settings or advance settings
>also check if your voice prompt for your answering machine is not too short there should be like at least 5 seconds after cutting your message to allow the machine to transfer the call to the fax if it is a fax tone.
